As she grabs the handles of the shopping bag, you go sliding down to the bottom trapped as she walks off. As she is walking you hear another girl say, "Hey Kate, what are you up to?" You hear the girl that is carrying the bag with you trapped inside reply "I have a bunch of text books I need to get rid of and the book store is buying used books so I figure I can get some extra cash." The girl says "Smart idea" as you feel Kate walking up the stairs swinging the bag.
You think, "Crap. I'm going in the wrong direction and if she starts dropping books in here I'm going to get crushed. This is not good." She enters her room and drops the bag on the bed and you think this may be your only chance to get away." You head for the top of the bag which is now laying sideways to escape before you get crushed. As you exit the bag you see you are on an unmade bed and it is going to be tricky to getting over the blanket to the edge. You are doing your best when a shadow falls over you and it is Kate getting the bag to load. You hear "What the hell?" and you know you are in trouble.
A hand comes down and knocks you over and she quickly bunches the blanket up trapping you in the folds. "What is that" she asks herself out loud. You look up to her and say "I'm a person just like you only smaller." She reaches down and grabs you by the legs dangling you upside down and lifting you up to her face to examine you. "Are you one of those Borrowers that live in the walls of the house and steal things to live off of?" she asks. "No. I'm just like you but I was shrunk down." you reply, "Now can you let me go?"
She continues looking at you thinking and says "I've never seen anybody as little as you. I bet you are really unique. Are there more of you? Where are your little friends?" You think this girl is an airhead with these questions and tell her "I'm the only one. Now can you let me go?" She smiles and carries you over to her desk and gets a bottle of Vitamin Water and takes a drink emptying it. She smiles at you and says "One of a kind. You sound really valuable and I could use the cash for school." She drops you into the now empty bottle and screws the cap on and tells you "I have a friend that I used to work for part-time. She'll know what you are worth."
Kate stuffs the bottle in her back pack and heads out of the sorority house to meet her friend. You have no idea where you are going until about twenty minutes later when you hear her talking excitedly to another female voice. She takes the bottle out of her bag, opens the cap and tilts it over sending you tumbling out of the top and onto a glass counter.
You look around and see you are in some sort of curio or antique store with all kinds of things on display. You look down and see antique jewelry in the case below your feet. You stand up and look at the new person and she is a pretty brunette in her early thirties with large glasses looking back at you. "So what does it do?" she asks Kate. You look up to her and say "What do you mean it. I'm a person." and both women laugh at your comment. "That's amazing. So where did you find him?" the woman asked Kate. "I found him in my bedroom. The little guy was stuck in my blanket." You look up at them and add "I was trying to get away and you took the bag I was hiding in." Kate taps you on your head lightly with her fingertip and replies "Well thanks for that because now you're going to solve my financial problems."
The women takes a magnifying glass and examines you pushing you around with her finger to see every side of you. You see she is wearing a name tag that says Jane but beside that you don't know much else about where you are. Jane says "I can't say I've ever seen anything like him before. You want to sell him? How much?" Kate thinks for a moment and says "Ten grand". Jane thinks for a moment and responds "I guess that's fair. I have a few buyers that are always looking for something unique. I should be able to make a little profit of him."
You yell out to Kate "You can't sell me. You don't own me." but Jane picks you up between her fingertips and says "Well my little friend, possession is nine tenths of the law and now you belong to me. But don't worry I should be able to find a nice home for you."
They shake on a deal and Jane takes out a checkbook and writes Kate a check. "Let's just say you sold me a rare doll." she tells Kate as she writes in the comment line, "I don't to make this complicated."
Jane takes a cut glass vase off a shelf and drops you in and places it back behind the counter. "That will keep him safe until closing time. I have a few calls to make to see if any of my regulars are interested in him. Kate says goodbye and leaves as Jane goes back to a desk to make calls leaving you alone in the vase.
A few hours pass by and Jane is closing up the store and come over to you turning the vase and spilling you out onto the counter. "Looks like we are in luck little one." she says, "I have one of my more exclusive customers that's interested in you. Maybe I can make 10x my investment in a day but first we are going to have to clean you up to make you presentable to my client. She opens a cylindrical metal container and pushes you inside screwing the top back on for the ride back to her place.
When you get to Jane's house, she takes you out and makes herself a small dinner from leftovers and gives you a little to eat and drink. "Now I am going to have to make you look better if I expect to get top dollar." she tells you. After dinner she strips off your clothes and throws them away. She then scrubs me clean with hot water and soap everywhere getting every last bit of dirt and whatever else was stuck on me. Then she presented me with doll clothes she had that was a pretty good fit. It was only shorts and a t-shirt but I was glad to have something close to real clothes again. She told me "Tomorrow I expect you to be a perfect gentleman. None of that back talk like you gave Katie. If you do it in front of the client, I will hurt you and encourage her to do the same. Understand?" I nodded my head yes knowing she wasn't about to change her plan no matter what I said.
She then took out a small box that was all glass. She laid a piece of silk that was folded over several time inside and laid me down in there. "Get some rest" she said, "You'll need it tomorrow." and closed the lid. She left for her bedroom and I decided it was time to make my move. I tried to stand up and push the lid open but it was lead crystal and a couldn't budge it. I sat down and thought about my situation and how I was about to be sold for a second time in 24 hours.
The next morning Jane took me out and gave me breakfast before putting me back in the glass box for safekeeping. She told me that she had set up a special appointment and was taking me to her buyer's house because I was so special. I though "Was that suppose to make me feel better". She placed the glass box in a cardboard box and them into a small bag that she carried to her car.
We drive for what seems like a long time to her client who is...
