You promptly inform Alvet that your plan will be to pick the lock on the cell door, but your idea causes the warrior woman’s smile to fade into a slight pout.
“That is an interesting idea, little fairy,” Alvet says, “but thy plan has one fatal flaw. Look around: this cell hath nothing small enough to undo the infernal lock upon that door!”
Taking another gander at your surroundings, you realize that your cellmate may be right. There isn’t much to work with in here, and what little is available won’t fit in the lock’s hole.
Unless…’little’…
Struck by sudden inspiration, Alvet speaks again. “That’s it! Fairy, thou art the answer! Thy form is small enough to unlock the cell door! What art thou waiting for? Bring freedom unto us!”
Of course! Being a puny fairy, you should be perfectly able to fit into the keyhole and work your magic on the lock’s tumblers!
Flying past the cell’s bars and down to the lock, you enter the dark keyhole, your fey powers illuminating the metal interior. One incantation later, the tumblers are activated…and at last the lock opens, falling to the ground! Thankfully, you exit the steely darkness before that happens.
With nothing else holding the door shut, Alvet easily opens it, leaving her isolating prison cell behind. She may not be as bright as, say, a cleric or mage, but even a barbarian girl knows that now is not the time to bask in her newfound freedom - there’s still this whole mazelike dungeon to get through!
“Come along, tiny fairy!” Alvet smiles to you. “We must escape this confounded labyrinth…”
Seeing something up ahead, you cautiously warn Alvet not to rush headlong down the path. But what exactly did you notice on the horizon?
Was it a trap door leading to a pit of snake girls? A sticky slime snare meant to glue you to Alvet? A strange mist to corrupt Alvet’s senses into viewing you as food? A catapult set up by a dragon girl? Or a voracious fiend disguised as a treasure chest?
