chapter 3

Every other opening except for the one labeled "Eilidon" has something strange. This is definitely your best choice.
There's a hatchet in the passage. You land with a splash in a small watery bowl. It takes you a second to flutter out and dry your wings, watching your small footprints on the dry stone...
"Oh my. Quite lost, aren't we?"
Her soft voice makes you jump. She'd been in a corner, sitting perfectly still and perfectly quietly. It takes you a moment to notice she's not looking at you - in fact, her eyes aren't even open.
"Yes, Eilidon, you've very much lost yourself here. Not only in Deeplily... My ears and eyes aren't sharp as they were a century ago. Why, you're even talking to yourself like an old lady."
Seems like Eilidon was just musing to herself.
Despite her age comments, she looks remarkable by human beauty standards. She's very tall and looming even while sitting, with ebony skin that's kept moist even in the dungeon environment. Her facial features are narrow with a few smile wrinkles, with tiny glasses; but she's got wide and sharp ears (again, contradicting her words). Her hair's in a massive, fluffy puff, in a shade of platinum with an almost purplish glow that's impossible in most species naturally.
No wonder the humans you've met have so many stories about meeting elves, despite you never seeing one in person until now.
"How silly. It's not like some fairy fluttered in to say 'hello'. That would be very strange. What reason might one have to visit a poor crone, down here?"
And you're still unsure if the cleric's seen you. She seems to turn her head slightly, and you can see your teensy reflection in her glasses - but her eyes still seem shut. There's no movement from the simple off-white cloak that's bunched up on her, not even a breath. The very tips of armored shoes peek out at the bottom, while her slender pianist fingers are folded patiently above on a simple wood staff.
Maybe she's toying with you.
Maybe it's a coincidence.
Maybe she's clueless...
Maybe she's your best hope.
