Jack paced around the glasses case in search of a way out. There had to be a solution to this mess! Surely he hadn’t doomed himself to a lifetime of slavery under Zoe and her friends! Despite his refusal to accept the situation, the glasses case proved a formidable prison. If there was a chance of escape, it wasn’t going to present itself tonight. Perhaps tomorrow, or the day after, or a week from now. He just had to keep looking for his chance.
With nothing else to do in the dark room, Jack tried to get some sleep, knowing tomorrow was going to be a long day.
Jack woke up sore and feeling sick. The clamshell case - while good enough for glasses - was as good as sleeping on the floor. His mouth was dry and a headache shot pain through him at fast, repeated intervals. In a word, Jack felt hungover.
Outside the case, Jack could hear Zoe moving around. He didn’t know what time it was, nor a sense of much time was even passing. Had it been minutes since he woke up? Hours? It was impossible to tell.
Zoe opened the drawer and lifted the case, giving it a quick shake in case Jack wasn’t awake yet. The screams from within told her he was indeed up and ready. She opened the case and smiled down at the cowering ball inside.
“Sleep well?” She asked. Jack didn’t reply. Furrowing her brow, Zoe closed the case and gave it another shake. Jack screamed once again as he collided with the walls, floor and ceiling of his cell. “I said ‘did you sleep well?’” Zoe reopened the case.
“Yes!” Jack shouted. “Yes, just don’t do that again! Please!!”
“Please what..?”
“Please goddess!”
Satisfied, Zoe set the case on her desk and started to get ready. Jack climbed out and watched as Zoe got dressed. She decided on a vest and denim shorts, a combo that would’ve pleased Jack when they were dating, but he was too terrified to be aroused. She then took a seat at the desk to do her makeup.
“Looking forward to seeing Jacki?” She asked while applying her mascara.
“Um… y-yes goddess…” Jack replied meekly.
“Don’t lie. I can tell you’re scared.”
“Well, if you want the truth…” Jack began. “I don’t remember Jacki liking me all that much…”
“Yeah, no shit!” Zoe laughed, “She hated you! Guess I should’ve listened to her, but I wasn’t to know you were a cheater! You should’ve heard her when she found out what you did, she was all ‘I told you so! I said he was bad news!’” Zoe laughed again, followed by a sigh. “Anyway, it doesn’t matter if you’re not looking forward to seeing her, because she is definitely looking forward to seeing you!”
Jack’s hands trembled. He feared what Jacki was going to do to him. He brought his knees to chest and stared at the floor while Zoe finished getting ready. When she did, she scooped him up and tossed him carelessly into her bag before heading out to meet Jacki.
