They spot a Lilliputian in a dune buggy
“What was that?” Jackie asked.
“I can’t tell. It looked like a small animal. But I’m positive it wasn’t it wasn’t a snake or something.”
“I thought I saw a toy for a second.”
They took timid steps towards the rolling sand dunes, where they saw the movement. The sand dunes didn’t necessarily look like dunes to the girls. They more or less looked like gentle little slopes of sand that rose up level with their shins. Their feet kicked up the powdery sand and left compacted footprints in the wake of their walk.
Jackie kept studying her environment. Everything felt so familiar, yet it all felt alien. Slightly off.
The hot sand warmed their bare soles but it wasn’t anything painful. The warm sand actually felt nice under the arches of their feet. The fineness of the sand also felt oddly comfortable to walk on.
“There! It didn’t get far.” Alissa pointed at another dune, about 4-steps ahead of them.
“It looks like a car.”
“It looks like an RC car. Look! It’s moving away from us.”
“Should we follow it?” Asked Jackie.
“Yes. The owner isn’t probably too far off.”
The RC car sped away from the girls. It raced up the little hills of the dune, only to catch air at the apex, before crashing down on the other side. Though it took the dunes effortlessly and sped at top gear, the girls caught up with the 2-inch long buggy.
Alissa reached the toy first and bent down to pick it up, but it quickly drifted right beyond her grasp. Jackie acted and stomped her left foot in front of the toy. The dune buggy took a hard right turn, but the drastic change in direction was enough for it to flip over once, landing on top of Jackie’s right foot. The little toy was stunned long enough for Jackie to pluck it with her thumb and index finger. She stood back up and brought the toy to her face.
Jackie noticed how fragile the toy felt. She could feel the outer piece bending and crumpling within her light grasp. Secondly, the toy looked incredibly detailed. The engine to the rear of the buggy was hot and had visible moving parts, so small, she could barely make them out.
“Oh my god.” Jackie said under her breath.
“What? What’s up?” Alissa walked over to her friend.
“Look.”
Alissa moved in closer to see the little toy. “Holy shit. Is that...it’s moving.”
“It looks real.”
“It looks like a little person.”
“Either this is some kind of super detailed toy or…” Jackie’s mind wondered off as she continued examining the one-inch figure in the driver's seat of the buggy. The little figure moved its arm and proceeded to take off its full-face helmet.
Alissa gulped. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She looked up to her friend and noticed, she too, was looking up at her with mouth wide-open.
The little figure started yelling at the girls and even shook a fist in the sky. The little thing didn’t see scared of the girls. Rather, the little thing seemed pissed.
“It’s real.” Jackie finally said. “A real, tiny person.”
“I think it’s trying to say something to us.” Alissa moved her ear close to the little figure. (Later, they would learn the little thing is a Lilliputian.) “I can’t understand what it’s saying. It doesn’t sound like a language I recognize.”
“The little person isn’t a thing.” Jackie cocked her head. “Stop saying ‘it.’”
“Well, what else should I call it?”
“Little...man, I dunno.”
“Do you think there are more of him?” Alissa looked up excitingly at her friend.
“Why?”
“Well, maybe they can help us and get water or figure out where we are.”
“Oh.” Jackie thought for a second while looking at the irate Lilliputian. “Well, yea. He wouldn’t be way out here by himself--”
“--right! Which means there should be more of him around.”
“Why are you so eager to find more of him?”
“I’ll tell you later.” Alissa was busy looking around her immediate area, looking for clues or evidence of more little people. “Look. I see a lot of tire tracks heading that way.”
As they headed toward the direction of the tire tracks, Alissa gently took the dune buggy from Jackie’s hand. Alissa was transfixed on the little man. Jackie thought it was cute how her taller friend was so interested on the tiny man. Jackie was too, but Alissa looked at the man with intense, rapt interest.
“Whoa. It’s a whole campsite, filled with little people.” Jackie crouched down and marvelled at the sight. There were RVs, a bonfire, BBQ grills, dune buggies, ATVs, 4 trucks parked in a circle. And at least 15 little people ranging in ages, male and female. They looked very human (except for their size) and wore clothes similar to what was found on Earth. All the Lilliputians looked back up at the girls and were motionless. Jackie noted that the little people didn’t look fearful. They looked up at them as if they crashed a party -- the fact that they appeared 400-feet tall didn’t seem the phase them.
“I want them all.’ Alissa said coldly.
Before Jackie could respond. The portal materialized out of nowhere.
“It’s back, Alissa. Quick, let’s go through it and get back home before it disappears.”
The girls didn’t know for sure if the portal went back home or not. But jumping through seemed like a great idea. Better to go through the portal than be stuck on a desert as giantesses.
“Uhm…” Alissa looked at the campsite, unsure what to do next.
