Towards Rachel
Shrunk at a slumber party

You instinctively pick right. Not because you identified the giant fingers of your best friend, not because you thought Kia and the other girl you still couldn't identify wouldn't be able to recognize you. You just wanted to get away from that traumatic crunching noise, that noisy black hole that destroyed the very surface you were admiring moments earlier, so quickly, so effortlessly.
"Ahh, fuck!" you scream as the unstable terrain becomes even more unstable and you stumble easily against the outer wall of a structure that you now know is just a pretzel. A look back allows you to identify it was Kelly to your left, a look at the birthday girl lets you witness again what you witnessed with Kia, but it somehow convinces you that approaching her is the best possible choice. That's because you also notice the rim of the white bowl now, something you weren't able to see before among the sea of chips and breadsticks you confused with telephone poles.
"RACHEL!!!" you stand up and try again as you run towards her, knowing deep down is stupid to try but not knowing what else to do. By the time you cross over a rye chip, what you thought was a cliff and still feels like a cliff at your size, another hand assaults your world and causes another earthquake. This one was a bit stranger, it makes you fall on your butt but it didn't shook the entire bowl like the other ones, and more importantly, it didn't seem to expose more of that white rim, your sign that you would be trapped in the bowl if there was no piece you could climb to get out of it.
"Stop picking the square pretzels, K" Rachel admonishes with a laugh
"Why? They are the best chex mix piece"
"Keep them busy" you think as you now cross a rugged yellow cliff, a corn chex. You are still far, it feels hopeless, but you repeat to yourself what convinced you earlier: Going towards Rachel is the best option because you are more familiar with her habits, among those the way she eats. It's not much and you know it, but this bowl you are on right now, you have shared snacks with her before, tons of times, way more than with Kia or Kelly or anyone else. You don't expect her to notice you, she would have to look at whatever piece you're on carefully, but at least if she picks you up, your hope is that you can work out the way you're being hold and manage to escape certain death. And you know her favs are the breadsticks, maybe that is useful info too.
"Where's Jess by the way? Haven't seen her" You hear Kia's voice behind you, and refuse to look back
"Her mom called her before you all came"
"Oh, everything alright?"
"I suppose" Rachel shrugs "you know how her mom is"
"Everything still urgent?" Kelly chuckles
"She never says so who knows. One time was to fix the internet, another ended up with poor Jess having to drive her to the other side of town for an appointment she forgot"
"Does that mean she won't come?"
"Not sure. She was already here anyway, she prepared all this you know" the way she says it while looking down at the bowl makes you stop for a second right after you go around a circle pretzel. That grateful smile stuns you for some reason, maybe because of the size difference, maybe because you're not supposed to be seeing it, maybe because the only time you remember seeing it on your best friend was that time you both were drunk enough to feel all melancholic about your friendship.. it makes you feel something completely illogical, that she's looking right at you, that she would notice you now.
"I'M HERE RACH!" You scream at the top of your lungs, move your arms, your legs, try to climb the pretzel next to you in an attempt to have a lifetime anecdote about the power of friendship.
"I'll text her later" Rachel says and brings you back to reality taking a single breadstick that could have served you to climb out of the bowl, at least it brought no earthquake.
"Hope she is here soon, I want to see her" Kelly agrees
You keep going with renewed energy and with renewed appreciation for people that cares enough to ask about you, wishing to contact them some way and let them know you're fine and still in the party, just at this ridiculous size for a reason that escapes your comprehension.
What happens next?
