You figured that since the duo stopped and tried to help a stranger walking down the road on his lonesome, even though they didn't have to, shows that they have at least somewhat honorable intentions regarding your safety, and they were the first to actually stop and talk to you instead of hiding in the bushes like a creeper.
It might be a good idea to stick close by to your new friends, especially since you're venturing into an unknown land without any foreknowledge of what you might find there. You did have your magic to protect yourself with but that's really only useful for escaping people who have no special powers of their own, and you knew for a fact that the world of anime had many individuals who have skill in magic that matches or even outstrips your own, as well as literal gods and demons that can swipe your book away like it was nothing. Whatever the case may be, it couldn't hurt to be on the safe side...
After a king moment of musing about your options, you nodded. "Yeah sure, I'll hang out with you guys for a spell, that is, if you'll have me."
Motoko smiled and put a reassuring hand on your shoulder. "Of course, you can stay with us for as long as you like. We'll be sure to take good care of you until you can find your bearings."
"Or if you decide that you want to stay with us on a permanent basis we have a guest bedroom that's gone unused for a while, though I'd much rather you sleep with us. Haruka added, muttering that last part under her breath so you couldn't hear.
"Why don't we head over to the cabin and get you settled and we can go get something to eat later? It's going to be about a day until we reach the island so you might as well relax and try to wind down until we get there," Motoko suggested.
