Revolution IV - Jackie's Tale My name is Jill Tiny chapter 28 by copier · original author: rainman1131

Suddenly, Jackie rolled out of Cindy's now relaxed grip, landing on the big girl's thigh, and bouncing off onto the bed. The ten-inch brunette hit the mattress running and didn't look back.

"Hey!" said Cindy, laughing as she lunged after her tiny friend. "Get back here, you!"

Jackie ducked behind Jill, just as Cindy's hands had nearly reached her.

Jill looked up at her large friend, grinning. "Give her a break, will you, Cindy? Let her tell her story."

Slowly, the giant blond pulled back her hand, and leaned back on the pillows. Her mouth puckered in a mock pout. "Okay, Jill."

Jackie looked at Cindy over Jill's shoulder, and stuck out her tongue.

Cindy rolled her eyes.

"Thanks, Cindy," the tiny blond replied. Jill reached around, placing an arm around Jackie's shoulder. "Okay, genius. Tell us about your day."

Jackie's face lit up. "Well..."

-------------------------------------------------------------

"Okay," said Mr. Tesla, leaning back on the front of his desk. "Any questions about your assignments?"

When, after several moments, none of the thirty or so children in the classroom spoke up, Jackie raised her hand.

The thin, balding man stared over his glasses at the tiny dark-haired girl in the front row. "Yes? Miss...uh..."

"Gennaro. It's Jackie Gennaro, sir."

"Your question, Miss Gennaro?" His voice was level, but held a slightly impatient undertone.

Jackie cleared her throat. "Yes, sir. I was just wondering - this assignment? Are you serious?"

Mr. Tesla pulled his glasses up a bit, then put them back down, fixing the tiny girl with a quizzical frown. "Problem, Miss Gennaro?"

Jackie nodded. "Well, yeah. It's the first day of class, you divide us into three-person teams, give us a problem to solve, and say, off you go? This is supposed to be Practical Applications in Theoretical Physics. I assume at some point, you'll be doing some actual, I don't know, teaching?"

The bald man's face colored slightly. "What did you say?"

"Jackie," whispered the giant blond girl in the seat next to her.

Jackie turned to look at the large, pretty girl who sat to her left. The girl's name was Buffy (a fact that secretly amused Jackie to no end), and she was one of Jackie's lab partners. She wore a fuzzy white sweater and a perfectly matched light blue skirt, making her look even more like a cheerleader than Cindy. In her jeans and sweatshirt, Jackie felt like a boy, by comparison. A very plain boy.

Buffy was looking over at her. Cool it! she mouthed.

Jackie sighed, turning back to look up at the waiting, apparently annoyed teacher. "What I mean, sir, is, don't we need a grounding in the subject in order to solve theoretical problems in physics?"

Mr. Tesla smiled. The grin pulled his thin, long-nosed face into something avian, a shore bird of some sort, perhaps, perching here on the edge of a desk in a classroom in the Complex. Jackie almost expected him to take wing. "Don't know your physics, Miss Gennaro? You are aware this is an advanced class, yes?"

Jackie stopped just short of rolling her eyes, settled for another sigh. "Of course I know physics. Would you like me to explain Quantum Theory to you, Mr. Tesla? I grasped that when I was nine. How old were you when you figured it out?"

Mr. Tesla's birdy face colored again.

"Jackie." This time the voice came from her right. It was Chad (which provided more amusement for Jackie), and he was her other lab partner. The best way to describe Chad was to say he was the male equivalent of Buffy. He was blond, and handsome in a way that made every girl in the class (and, Jackie was sure, a couple of the boys) take one glance, and then another, the second more lingering. Jackie herself was far from immune, often finding her own gaze drawn back to the chiseled, almost Aryan features, and the lithe, muscular body that a loose cashmere sweater and soft twill slacks could do nothing to hide.

Jackie looked to see Chad shaking his head slightly at her.

"Am I going to have a problem with you, Miss Gennaro?" asked Mr. Tesla, his voice trying hard for easy, almost making it.

Jackie glanced at each of her partners. She shook her head. "No, sir."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Chad and Buffy?" Cindy giggled. "They sound almost to cute to be real."

Jackie lay back on the bed behind Jill, stretching out. She shook her head slowly on the bedspread. "You have no idea."

Jill laughed. "So do you like them? Are they smart, like you?"

The brunette's face pinched into a thoughtful stare. "Like them? Yeah, I guess they're okay. If you can get past that perfect, blond, Aryan thing they've got going. And smart? You know it almost pains me to say it, but they've both got first-rate minds. Their GIRs are-"

"Oh, please!" Cindy blurted. "What's this obsession with the darn intelligence ratings? I mean, it's as bad as guys and the size of their...well...you know."

Jackie looked at Jill. "Is she trying to say penis?'

Jill nodded. "I think so."

The giant blond blushed, leaning back a little into the pillows. "Yeah, that. You intellectuals are just as obsessed with the size of your brains."

For several moments, nobody said anything. When it was apparent that Jackie wasn't going on with her story, Cindy relented, and, sighing, asked, "Okay, how big are Buffy and Chad's brains?"

Jackie grinned. She drew her tongue across her lips, then placed her flattened palms about a foot apart.

Jill laughed.

"You're amazing, Jackie," Cindy said. "How did you make that dirty?"

--------------------------------------------------------------

The three students stood in front of the elevator, the two big people flanking the small one.

"So our assignment is to figure out how the elevators in the Complex work." said Buffy.

Jackie looked up at the pretty blond. "What are you, the narrator?"

"Huh?"

The tiny brunette shook her head. "Nevermind. What's that you got there, Chad?"

The handsome boy was kneeling down next to the elevator door, or at least in the place the elevator would appear, once activated by the key card. He was holding a silver-gray, metallic device, about the size of a tape recorder. It had what looked kind of like a microphone attached to the unit with a long, curly black cord. He was slowly moving the microphone-like thing over the area where the elevator door should appear once activated.

"It's a Geiger counter," said the blond boy. "I just thought it might be a good place to start.

Buffy nodded. "Good idea, Chad. Checking for radioactivity is a good first step. It may run on nuclear power."

"Yeah," agreed Jackie, reaching out to pat Chad's arm. "That is a good idea. And my congrats to you, Buffy, for not pronouncing it, 'nu-cu-ler.'"

Buffy knelt next to Chad, giving Jackie a gentle flick on the shoulder with her finger. "You know, Jackie, you're not the only one here who's smart."

"Yeah, I know. Sorry."

"It's okay. Now Mr Tesla said the elevators aren't run off the main power grid. They have to run on something. Getting anything, Chad?"

Chad made another couple of passes, then turned, shaking his head. "Nothing. No radioactivity."

"Uh, guys," said Jackie suddenly.

Both teens looked down at Jackie, who stood on the floor between their kneeling, but still towering forms. Man, thought Jackie, I feel like they're the mom and dad, and I'm the little kid. "I think I might have a handle on this."

Chad stared down at the tiny girl. "What, Jackie?"

In spite of herself, Jackie once again felt herself drawn to the good-looking boy, his piercing blue eyes making something inside her melt a bit. "Uh.. well, it's the schematics for the Complex. I got them from the Archives. You see, guys, there are no shafts for these elevators. Not one."

Buffy blinked. "That's not possible, Jackie. How do they get from one floor to another?"

Jackie grinned. "I hate the phrase, Buffy, but try thinking outside the box."

"I don't get..."

But now Chad was smiling. "I think I do." He grinned down at Jackie. "I think you're my new hero."

Jackie felt that something inside her melt a little more. She looked down, blushing furiously.

Buffy looked puzzled, and now a little frustrated. "I still don't see..." Suddenly the pretty blond's blue eyes grew wide. "Oh my God. I think I got it. It's not an elevator, is it? It's really a...a..."

Jackie grinned, nodding. "It's a teleporter, Buffy. My guess is, though I don't believe we'll be able to prove it just yet, is that it's some kind of anit-matter drive that-"

But she didn't complete her thought, because two large, strong hands were scooping her up and lifting her into the air.

"Hey!" Jackie just had time to say, as Chad's huge face loomed up before her and she was brought up against his lips. He kissed her gently, and quickly, just a light buss really, but Jackie felt a tingling cover her entire face, as his firm soft lips had covered her from the top of her head to her chin. Then she was placed gently back on the floor. Jackie had a brief glimpse of Buffy, who appeared to have been frowning for a moment, but it was there and gone so fast, that Jackie couldn't be sure it had been there at all.

As Jackie stood unsteadily between the two giants, Buffy leaned in and kissed her softly on top of the head. "You are brilliant, Jackie."

Jackie patted the soft, giant cheek before her. "Thanks, Buffy, but you guys figured it out, too. Once I told you about the blueprints."

But Chad was shaking his head. "Only you thought to look at them, Jackie. I think we've got ourselves a team leader. What do you think, Buffy?"

Buffy nodded, smiling. "Absolutely."

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"So...how was the kiss?" asked Cindy, reaching forward at last, and scooping Jackie up into her embrace.

Jackie, giving up resisting her giant friend, looked up into Cindy's face. "Which one?"

Jill chuckled on the bed below.

Cindy poked Jackie teasingly in the stomach. "Come on, shrimp! I want details!"

Jackie pushed away the teasing finger with both of her tiny hands, then tilted her head. "Well...it was...nice."

"Nice? That's all I'm getting out of you? Nice?"

"Yep. It was nice."

Cindy pouted. "You're no fun."

Jackie shrugged.

Jill decided to change the subject. "So how did the assignment go? Did the teacher say you got it right?"

Jackie grinned. "That's the best part. We turned in our findings to Mr. Tesla, and you know what?"

"What?" asked Cindy.

Jackie patted her giant friend's hand. "Mr. Tesla was very impressed. He congratulated us on our interpretation, even the anti-matter postulation we tacked on. And do you know what I realized as we talked to him about it?"

Both girls shook their heads.

Jackie grinned impishly. "Mr. Tesla himself had no idea how that elevator worked. He sent us to see if we could figure it out for him."

Cindy held the little brunette up closer to her face, blinking. "You must be mistaken, Jackie. Certainly a professor of Theoretical Physics, one who teaches in the Complex, would understand the workings of the elevators here!" she fixed Jackie with a quizzical stare. "Wouldn't he?"

Jackie shook her head. "Nope."

Cindy shook her head. "But how can that be?"

Before Jackie could answer, Jill said quietly. "It says that the current occupants of the Complex don't completely understand the technology involved in it's construction and operation. This is alien technology, isn't it, Jackie."

Jackie nodded. "Yeah, Jill, I think it is."
