You clumsily step aside as Rachel’s fingers plunge into the bowl beside you, before tentatively rising back into the air with five lilliputians caught between them. She mutters something to her chosen few, before dropping one of them into the wine glass in her other hand, keeping the rest in a cupped palm. Without another word, she pops two of them into her mouth, and takes a sip of the wine before walking away.

A few moments pass, and you recognise some more familiar footsteps approaching, then the light clatter of a plate being placed on the table somewhere beside and beneath you. You crane your head upwards just as Allison looks down at you.

“Oh, hey! Fancy meeting you here, didn’t think you were coming,” she says, crouching down to be at eye level with you. You wave, but she continues before you can reply. “And Kara, hi! I thought you were with- ah, doesn’t matter. Anyway, just scooch over a bit, I’ll just grab some of the ingredients quickly.” Her fingers rise over the edge of the bowl before dipping into the pool of lillies, before she turns her hand over, shaking it lightly so the tiny people roll into her slightly cupped palm. Watching this play out reminds you of something.

“Hang on, weren’t you vegan? Like last time at Skye’s you almost didn’t eat anything because a lillie wouldn’t get off your plate?” you ask.

Allison sighs and hangs her head dramatically, clearly this isn’t her first time answering this question tonight. “Yeah, yeah, I’ve been corrupted. Well the logic was you don’t really count since, um, you go all the way through intact but… you know what? Just blame Natalie, shes always cooking up the best stuff with lillies somewhere in there. Though I guess you’d already know about that. I’m rambling, hang on.”

She reaches down again, scooping up maybe a dozen finger-length people to add to her dish. You stumble over to the edge of the bowl, to take a look at what she’s having.

“Wasn’t that pasta vegan as well?” you wonder out loud.

Allison drops the lillies onto the tangle of spaghetti, where they struggle to stand in the slick, tangled strands, and are quickly coated in the red sauce. “Mhmm.”

“Kind of counterproductive, isn’t it?”

“Maybe, I don’t know, I liked this one anyway, you know? Old habits and whatnot. The normal one is very eggy.”

She picks up her plate to leave, but remembers something first.

“Oh and by the way, Nat said Skye said to tell you that this bowl of lillies you’re in will be used in the next whatever game they’re doing. Probably just stuffing their faces again. Just a heads up.”
