Natsuki looked at the two very different groups of humans she’d be leading. The contrast between the colorful and magically powerful Sailor Scouts and the tough and gun wise Gunsmith Cats was astonishing. One group was complied of young, naïve girls that fought for justice and the other were street smart bounty hunters here to make a buck. The two groups were looking at each other warily not knowing what to think of the other. Natsuki knew that they’d be working together and that it was her job to have them get along. She stepped forward to introduce herself properly.
“Hi, I’m Natsuki. We’re going to be working together to catch the Lakeside Swallower and I hope we can all be friend. If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask away.” Natsuki smiled brightly at the collected girls. Maybe she didn’t have to worry about them being eaten. They seemed capable enough to handle themselves, perhaps Kondo’s death was a fluke and she had nothing to worry about. The oldest of the otherworld girls, Rally, raised her hand slowly to ask a question. Natsuki nodded to her to ask away.
“One thing I want to know,” Rally said, staring directly at the Sailor Scouts. “Are you all working girls?” The Scouts sputtered at the question, not believing what the American girl was saying. Sure, their outfits were a little outlandish, but they were the defenders of justice, how could they be mistaken for prostitutes?
“I don’t know about the rest of the girls, but I’ve never been able to work very hard. Most of the time I get to sweaty from working and have to stop,” said Sailor moon, who didn’t quiet know the meaning of working girl. The other Scouts growled at their leader’s comments and clenched their fists in frustration at Moon’s stupidity. Sailor Mercury, the most well spoken and intelligent of the Scouts, stepped forward to rectify the situation.
“What my friend means is that we are the Sailor Scouts, a type of super hero from Tokyo. We aren’t that ‘kind’ of women.” Rally nodded gradually, not too sure about working with super heroes. Nut cases and terrorists were more her cup of tea. She had come to the city in search of the hefty reward placed on this super criminal that was kidnapping girls. The fact that she was hunting this guy in another reality mattered little to her. Only the return rate on the reward she’d get for catching this bastard. She turned to Mini-May. Her short, cute partner shrugged, not too certain about the super hero thing either.
“Um, maybe we should talk strategy?” Natsuki said, seeing that they weren’t getting anywhere. Everyone stared at her and Natsuki scratched her head warily. She wasn’t very good at leading people, that was usually left up to Sakura or Batanen. She just couldn’t assert herself enough and let people walk all over her. She took after the house cat, which is one of the most docile of all animals. The cat girl sat down and everyone followed. They wanted to all get out there and catch the Lakeside Swallower, for either justice or the reward.
“So…” Natsuki deadpanned, not knowing exactly where to start. She had been thrown into this without any warning and wasn’t certain of how to start. She twiddled her fingers in her lap, tugging at her skirt nervously as she tried to think of what to say to the collected girls. She couldn’t tell them that this criminal really did eat girls and that he had already eaten a very strong fellow officer. Cursing Mr. Mutagami in her head for not giving her any warning about the teams before hand, she began by laying down a simple game plan for the girls to follow.
“The criminal that the news has named the Lakeside Swallower strikes at night near the water front. The girls he takes are...um... assumed missing, but we are still instructed to bring him in dead or alive.” That brought a smile to Rally’s face, lethal force was her favorite type of force. She caressed her handgun at her hip.
“We’ll break into two teams, one will hit the streets with me and the other will stay behind as backup. Anyone want to volunteer to hit the streets with me?” Natsuki frowned internally at her plan. Having one team go in and another stay back for support was the standard way the Police Company operated. However, this was done with members of the Police Company, not untrained outsiders.
“Can I ask something,” Rally said with a raised eyebrow. “If the first team in gets the guy, will the support still get a cut of the reward?”
It was a good question and Natsuki opened her mouth to answer, but was cut off by Sailor Moon.
“The Sailor Scouts are defenders of love and justice, we don’t do it for money. You can keep all of the reward if you wish,” Moon said with poise. The Scouts returned to growling at their leader. They might fight for love and justice, but they still wanted some of the reward. Moon remained oblivious to her companion’s evil eyes, smiling happily at Rally, who was rubbing her hands together merrily.
“In that case, you girls can go into the dark alleys chasing down the woman eater, while me and May watch your backs from somewhere secure.” The Scouts stared holes into their leader. Now they were expected to do all the work, while the other women would take all of the reward. Moon just kept smiling, looking strait at Rally. She was pleased that she had made Rally happy, even at her own expense. Rally just sat still, calculating how much money her and May would make from the full reward and thanking her lucky stars for suckers like Sailor Moon. The only one not happy or pissed was Natsuki. She had a bad feeling about this and it wasn’t being helped after seeing her dysfunctional group. Things were going to get messy.
