“From the city of Shinjuku, this is K-Oni News with a special report,” said a muscular werewolf behind a news desk. Beside him, his co-anchor, a red furred fox girl, took over reporting the story. Looking directly at the camera, she read from the teleprompter carefully. She knew this was a big story, one that could be her ticket out of this second rate news station.
“Another human has been eaten by the waterside, by the mysterious monster that the media has dubbed, the Lakeside Swallower. Over the last few weeks, a monster of unknown breed or origin has been taking women off the street and eating them near to the water. No one has seen his or her face or found a connection between his victims, except that they were all young and beautiful women.” A picture appeared behind the reporter of a white lined silhouette with a question mark inside. Without any clue of the size, age or shape of the Lakeside Swallower, they had to make even the outline vague.
“The local law enforcement and bounty hunting organizations, like the Police Company, have had no luck finding the Lakeside Swallower. In fact, during several stake outs the officers have gone missing and are presumed eaten.” Several pictures of beautiful women officers were posted on the screen. Most of them were human, but several were monsters. The fact that the Lakeside Swallower was targeting monsters made this story even more interesting because rarely were other monsters targeted in crimes of digestion. The female reporter shuffled her sheets, knowing that this could be the story that could lead her to the big leagues. People were scared of the Lakeside Swallower and once she dropped the bombshell she’d discovered, the story would become even bigger.
“Due to the lack of success the local police and bounty hunters have had, a special bulletin has been sent out offering a huge reward for the capture or death of the Lakeside Swallower. What makes this bulletin so unique is that it’s being sent not only around the world, but also into other dimensions. Soon, bounty hunters, reporters and thrill seekers will fill the water’s edge, all looking for the elusive Lakeside Swallower. No names have been given of potential otherworlders, but rumors of other cities sending their police force and super heroes are rampant. The commissioner of police hasn’t commented on the fact that so many unqualified people will soon be arriving to search for such a dangerous criminal. Nor has he responded to inquiries about the danger the otherworlders will face. Many people believe that this is just a ploy to feed the Lakeside Swallower ill-equipped otherworlders so he’ll leave our citizens off his the menu. But I ask you, how incompetent is our local law officer that it has to pacify a killer with unprepared prey that will literally come to him. This is Diana Chimaria, signing off.” As the screen went blank, Diana smiled to herself. Her last comment would get her an angry letter from the government, but would also draw thousands of new viewers to watch her tomorrow night. She only hoped that the Lakeside Swallower continued preying on the people of Shinjuku and also ate a few of the otherworlders. What Diana didn’t know, was that the Lakeside Swallower was stalking his latest victim as she finished her report.
