The Mt. Nibel reactor was abandoned, and had been abandoned since the day that Sepiroth came and burned down the village of Nibelheim 3 short years ago. The reactor was closed to the public of the townsfolk of Nibelheim, which was rebuilt after a year it was burned down. The new Nibelheim looked like the old Nibelheim, but there were some changes; some building weren't in the same location, but that hardly mattered to the people of Nibelheim. This was because this Nibelheim was inhabited by different people...since almost all of the people that lived in Nibelheim was killed in the fire. Now it was three years later, and Tifa Lockhart still lived in the city. There were moments when Tifa could recall those awful events of three years ago as if they had happened yesterday...and she would cry over the loss of her father, and of Glenn. During these moments of crying, Tifa felt a pain deep within her body, as if there was something inside her trying to get out. Those feelings of something trying to crawl out of Tifa's body began three years ago, and the pain still bothered her off and on for three years. She had no idea what it could be, but she felt it was an evil force deep within her. She felt that way, because when she felt the pain within her, evil thoughts crept into her mind and it was almost as if the evil thoughts were trying to take control of her. These bouts of pain usually happened once every three months and the pain was intense. Tifa went to the doctor of Nibelheim to tell him about it, but the doctor was baffled. So, Tifa had gotten used to the bouts of pain, but she was getting tired of these bouts. What could possibly be in her body to cause that pain...and the evil thoughts? These evil thoughts truly scarred her to death..they were about her killing everybody in Nibelheim and taking over the world.
And that wasn't everything. Tifa was still the number one guide that could show visitors to Nibelheim the Mt. Nibel reactor. The reactor itself was off-limits and nobody had entered it for years. But something fairly disturbing happened when Tifa was showing visitors to the village the reactor. These people wanted to see the reactor becuase they claimed to materia hunters, and they heard rumors that a new kind of materia would be found in the reactor. These rumors were all false, but the 5 people paid Tifa good money to be thier guide. As Tifa was leading the 5 materia hunters near the reactor, she saw something on the ground. It looked to be a dogtag from a military outfit. On the dogtag was the name "Galaire". The dogtag was in a puddle of blood. Tifa couldn't remember anyone with that name before, but as she looked up at the reactor, she saw something that truly terrified her. One of those creepy pods was now beside the entrance. The pod was opened, and what looked like claw marks was all over the pod. The greenish liquid that was in the pod was now all over the front entrance.
As soon as she saw that, Tifa felt pain in the middle of her chest. The pain was overwhelming her, and she fell to the ground. The 5 people asked if she was okay...but something happened that made the 5 people run as fast as they could down the mountain path. Tifa was growing.
