As Ed and the others discovered Winry and Al were missing, Al and Winry were already walking through the desert. They had waited until everyone had gone to sleep before quietly leaving through one of the walls. Al had written a note using alchemy so he could use regular paper for the others to be able to read better then left with Winry. They had moved swiftly through the night avoiding towns and skirting around lakes. Finally, just as the sun was rising, they made it to the edge of the great desert. Before traveling out into the swirling sands they used alchemy to alter their clothes to make them more desert appropriate. They out together across the desert, in search of a new life amongst others like themselves.

Hours later, just as Ed was discovering them missing, the pair were getting tired walking around the desert and finding nothing.

"We don't even know where this place might be." Al said. "Dad wasn't exactly specific."

"Maybe this was a bad idea to go rushing out." Winry said.

"I'm worried about brother. What if he's mad that we left without him?"

"Come on Al! We're just going out to find the place. Once we do we'll remember it and go back to say our last good-byes."

"So brother's really not coming with us?"

"He can't Al! How could he possibly live with four giants? He'd be crushed!"

"I konw...but I don't want to leave him behind...I can't help but feel we abandoned him and all the troubles in Amestris."

"We can't worry about that now Al." Winry said, pulling his arm. "Let's just keep looking."

Al sighed and continued walking through the desert. As the hours ticked away, the sands swirled faster and faster in increasing velocity. Already a normal person would've been in danger in these winds.

"We must be getting closer!" Winry shouted out over the wind.

"Don't talk Winry!" Al shouted back. "The winds too strong!"

The two giants kept pushing through the sand, the wind getting worse and worse. Suddenly, a sand cyclone whipped by.

"This is getting dangerous!" Al shouted.

"Just a little further! I know it!"

Ten minutes later, Al and Winry had pushed to the heart of the storm. Sand cyclones swept all around them. Finally, they saw a gigantic swirling wind surrounded by dozens of cyclones. Al reached out his hand to touch the swirling sands and wind and pulled back as the sands cut up his hand.

"This must be it." they both thought.

In sync, they used alchemy to calm the winds. Instantly, the winds died away and the cyclones disappeared. Al and Winry walked forward, ready for whatever they would find.
