It didn't take long to get from Pinako's house to the giant's house in the woods. Winry carried Pinako and Hohenheim and Al carried Ed. Al had wanted to carry Hohenheim as well but Ed wouldn't hear of it. Once they got inside and the doors were locked and everyone was settled in Winry and Al went into the bedroom to talk alone while Pinako and Hohenheim stayed on a table to talk. Ed sat under the same table ontop of a chair to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"So why did you come back after all these years?" Pinako asked.
"Nostalgia?" Hohenheim said.
"Don't give me that." Pinako said. "What's the real reason?"
Hohenheim sighed and said, "I've been travelling for these long years and I've heard things that concern me. The military starting campaign after pointless campaign. Strange deaths caused by creatures dressed in black. Rumors about the Philosopher's Stone. And now Liore getting attacked and the reappearance of the Stone. Not to mention this strange business with Al and Winry."
"What do you think it means?" Pinako asked.
"I have an idea. But I don't want the boys to know. This is something I have to do on my own. I only stopped here on my way to Central to see them again."
"I don't like the sound of this." Pinako said. "What are you planning?"
"I can't say. I'm going to leave tonight after everyone has gone to sleep. I only ask that you don't tell anyone and you don't try to stop me."
"Alright. I suppose I can do that much."
Ed had only one thought, "Good riddance."
Meanwhile, in the bedroom, Al and Winry were having a conversation of their own.
"When should we go?" Winry asked.
"Go? To the desert you mean?" Al said.
"Yeah! We have to go find those other two giants!"
"But what about brother? If we left he'd be heartbroken! Besides, we have things to take care of here first."
"I know." Winry said, sounding slightly sad. "I just want this whole ordeal to be over."
"It will be soon." Al said, holding Winry.
"What are you going to do next?" Winry asked.
"I don't know." Al said truthfully. "I have to talk to brother about it."
The two just held each other, worried about the future and wondering what was really going on in this country.
