“Fine, try your spell,” she grumbled.
“Really?” Louie asked, the tears immediately disappearing.
“Really,” Merrill said, not looking at Louie.
“You sure?”
“I’m sure.”
“You really sure?”
“I said I’m sure!”
Louie flinched at the outburst. Merrill sat down on a tree stump and crossed her arms over her chest. She didn’t care how she got her coin, as long as she got it. Seeing that he wasn’t in any danger of Merrill slicing him open, Louie reached for a large walking stick, which he used as a wand. He mentally went through the spell in his head, making certain that he didn’t mispronounce any of the words and turn himself into a frog. Once he was certain that he had it, Louie began his spell.
“Catan Latak Mataklana!”
His wand glowed with a pink light before disappearing. Merrill remained still watching for something to happen. When it became clear there wasn’t going to be any explosion or further light show, Merrill stood up and walked to Louie.
“That’s it?” Merrill asked, feeling not at all impressed by the magic she’d just seen.
“Pretty much,” Louie said meekly, a little surprised himself that no explosions had been caused by his spell.
“So, should I open up and let you stick your hand down my throat?”
Merrill scowled in disgust, the spell hadn’t misfired and killed the incompetent magician liked she hoped. Now, she had to stick her arm down his slimy throat, just to get one measly coin. For a second, Merrill actually considered letting the coin go, then she reminded herself that technically it was her money and she could never let one of her precious possessions go.
“I swear, if you get any funny ideas, I’ll flay your sorry ass,” Merrill grumbled as she took of her vest. She knew she’d have to go deep to reach Louie’s stomach and the last thing she needed was for some of his drool to get on her clothes.
“Bend forward,” Merrill ordered. Louie was a full head taller then her, making it near impossible for her to reach into his mouth; he realized this and leaned forward. It was a little shocking to believe that Merrill was actually going through with his crazy idea. The only reason he’d suggested it was to avoid her blade, but he’d never of guessed that she’d actually go through with it. Merrill must have really wanted the coin in his stomach.
“Aaaaaahhh,” he yawned opening his mouth wide so Merrill could get her hand inside. Actually seeing Louie bent forward made Merrill pause, was she really this desperate for gold that she’d stick her hand down this fools throat? She imagined that shiny coin, resting at the bottom of Louie’s stomach, sparkling and calling out to her, ‘Save me, Merrill! Save me!’
“I’m coming, my precious.” No longer feeling any qualms, Merrill stepped towards Louie and reached carefully into his mouth. Her slender fingers passed his lips and teeth and entered his oral cavity. His hot breath blew on her hand and Merrill shivered, in a strange way the hot air felt nice. She pushed her hand forward, until her fingers touched the back of his tongue. It was now or never and with a deep breath, Merrill pushed her hand into Louie’s throat.
