Legends surround the draconian people..the people that destoryed Atlantis by thier own mistake. Thier mistake was making a machine that could turn human thoughts and wishes into reality. With the machine, the draconain people grew wings and dared to think as themsleves as gods. Atlantis was destoryed by the very machine that the draconains had built. With the machine's help, the draconians changed thier bodies in unnatural ways, like the angel-like wings they have. There were other changes to thier bodies that were never discovered by ordinary people. One of these changes allowed draconains to swallow each other whole for sexual pleasure. The draconains could decide to digest the person within thier stomachs or not. Nobody is sure how many draconains are left, for they have a long life, far longer than anything on Gaea..which was created by the draconians so that nobody made thier mistake again. The general populace of Gaea dislike drsconians because they are unnatural and they believe that the draconains might destroy Gaea like they did with Atlantis.
Van Fanel, King of Fenelia, is one of these draconians. Actually, he's half-draconian because his father married a draconian woman. Van and his brother Folken had inherited the wings of a draconian from thier mother. But...since they were half-draconian, it couldn't mean that they have the ability to swallow people whole..or can they? Or rather, can Van? Folken was killed when he killed Emperor Dornkirk.

It's been nearly a year since the defeat of Emperor Dornkirk. Hitomi had gone home to the Mystic Moon, promising Van that she would return one day. Since that time, all of Fanelia was rebuilt finally. Van was the King of Fanelia, and the people urged him to marry so he could have an heir. But, Van was in love with someone from the Mystic Moon..Hitomi Kanzaki. Maybe Hitomi forgot all about Gaea after she had returned home. Van had been to the Mystic Moon only once and what a visit it was. He probably was the only person from Gaea to go to the Mystic Moon.
Van still liked to pilot Escaflowne anytime he had a chance to escape the burden of being a king. He was usually in the company of Merle on these little adventures, whom he still liked. Van usually went around his kingdom in Escaflowne, checking on the defenses of Fenelia. The defenses of Fanelia was now nearly three times better now after the Zaiback attack of one year ago. It was on these little adventures, when Van saw something that made him happy. A pink light out somewhere in the wilderness. Van and Merle was just about to have lunch when Van saw the pink light. That pink light only meant one thing -- Hitomi was coming back to Gaea! Van got into Escaflowne again and went towards the light.
"I was hungry, Lord Van!" complained Merle, who was on the shoulder of the Ispano guymelef.
"I think Hitomi has returned to us" said Van.
The pink light had faded, but Escaflowne was near enough to see where the light was coming from. Sure enough, on a grassy plain stood Hitomi holding her duffel bag. She was wearing her miniskirt and her long-sleeved shirt. Nothing had changed much about Hitomi...except she was a year older and seemed to have a earring on each ear.
