You push and push, but no matter how much you try the fleshy entrance you came through earlier refuses to release you. Becoming scared and frightened from this revaluation, you try harder and use all of your eight year old body's strength. But nothing happened, the fleshy portal refused to budge even an inch.
Crying now, you try and yell back to your mother outside of your sister. “Mo… mommy! I… I c… an't get ou…out!”
You can hear a slight gasp outside before your mother's muffled voice comes filtering in.
“It's okay honey, don't panic, I'll take you and your sister to the hospital. You'll be out in no time.” Her words sounded reassuring to you, but even your eight year old self could pick up on the slight panic in your mother's voice.
However, before you had much time to think more on this situation. You start to get bounced around your little room, as your mother has picked up Tulip and rushed her to the hospital.
—
In the outside world Rachel was pacing in the hospital room, it had been several hours since she and her two kids arrived. It had taken her nearly an hour to convince them that her son was one three inches tall and two was currently stuck within his ‘little’ sister's womb.
From there a series of tests had been done, the first most obvious one was an ultrasound that showed Steve inside of Tulip's womb. Then they had done a vaginal exam on Tulip to ensure she wasn't bleeding internally from her brother's insertion.
From there they asked both Tulip and Steven a series of questions to ensure they were both doing fine and in good health.
Finally they had to wait a couple of hours for a special gynecologist that specialized on young children. Once she had arrived at the hospital, she took Tulip in a different room for another exam.
This is where Rachel was at, waiting for this latest exam and any news from it.
Finally Debbie, the gynecologist, stepped out of the exam room. Her face tried to remain neutral and professional. But Rachel could tell she didn't have great news.
“Hello Mrs Mcminor, may we sit down and talk about your children's predicament?” Debbie had asked as she motioned to the chairs off to the side of the room. Nodding both Rachel and Debbie took a seat.
“Doctor, please just tell me the news. Can we get Steve out of Tulip?”
Debbie's eye drifted down for a moment, and a flash of sadness over took her face for the briefest of moments.
“Yes it is possible, we can do surgery and easily retrieve him. However the problem is your daughter, she's young, too young for this type of surgery. There's a high chance that she could bleed out in an accident because of how small her body is, but there's another problem as well. Even if she was older, this type of operation could leave her unable to conceive children in the future as well.” Rachel gasp and covered her mouth as tears started to form in her eyes.
“Mrs Mcminor, I know this is a hard situation. But here are the potential options, right now we have three options available to us. Option one is the riskiest to your daughter and that is to go forward with the surgery to remove your son from her womb. As I said before however, because of her young age she doesn't have a lot of blood in her body. If something goes wrong doing the surgery, there's a good chance she could bleed out on the table. There is also the very real chance that her womb could become unusable from scarring leaving her unable to have children of her own.”
“The next option is a bit safer, we could surgically implant feeding and watering tubes into her womb to keep Steve alive in there while we wait for Tulip to grow up. Once she hits puberty, it's possible that she might ‘pass’ Steve out through her first period, and if not at that age it'd be safer to surgically remove him without the high risk of your daughter bleeding out. The main downside about this plan is Steve's own health and his mental health as well.”
“Humans are social creatures by instinct, with him being trapped within your daughter's womb for at least the next decade… well it's hard to imagine how well his personality would be. Even if you and your family ‘talks’ to him daily, I'm not quite sure how he would end up being like. Then there his physical health, if he gets sick or somehow breaks a bone while in there, there's little to nothing we could really do for him.”
“Finally there's the last option, and let me stress this now no one would think bad of you if you choose this option. There's a new drug that helps transplant patients with donated organs. What it does is it causes the host body to recognize any foreign objects as part of its own system. From there the host's body starts to absorb and assimilate the organs and reform them with their own DNA coding.”
“In theory, this means if Tulip was to be given this, then her womb should try and absorb Steve into itself and make him a permanent part of Tulip's body. This would of course cause the death of Steve, but it would be a more humane death than, say, allowing him to starve to death.”
“In short there isn't an option unfortunately that won't put one of your kids at risk or cause them unforseen harm. I'm sorry Mrs Mcminor I wish I had better news.”
Rachel with tears in her eyes, took a deep breath. Her children's futures were in her hands, does she potentially sacrifice Tulip to save Steve? Or does she sentence Steve to a decades worth of isolation? Or God forbid, does she give up on Steve and protect Tulip?
