-----The Next Day-----
The investigators had combed the house for hours, looking for clues as to what happened. Not a single thing strange turned up. Neither hair, nor fingerprint of anyone outside of your family. Your wife is definitely missing though. Typically, they said, you'd be the prime suspect in the case but considering your... condition... they ruled it out.
They left, not having accomplished anything. Before they do, they let you know that they'll be doing everything they can to find her. You hope they find her quickly.
You don't tell the kids any of this. They are too young for this stuff. You just tell them that their mother has gone out of town for a bit, and will be back before they know it.
...
A week passes by with no word on your wife's whereabouts. You do your best not to worry too much. So far, the kids don't suspect a thing. Jenny has been trying to eat you and Jet again. You tried sitting her down and giving her a talk about it, but it didn't seem to phase her since she started bringing it up the very next day. One time, you caught her with your son stuffed in her mouth. She went to bed without supper that night.
One day, you are sitting on the couch when the phone rings. You hop down and head over to the miniature phone set up for you in the corner. "Hello?" you answer. "Hey there, Mr. McMinor." It's a voice you don't recognize. "Who is this?" you ask cautiously. "That's not important. What is important is that I know where your wife is." The woman teases you casually, "I saw her in a bar down in downtown Chicago." "Is she okay? What bar was it? How do you know me? Who is this" you start demanding. There is a pause on the other line, followed by an abrupt click. You stand there, holding the phone to your ear for a minute as you process the information.
You contact the police again and tell them everything. The number traced back to a payphone in downtown Chicago. The investigator, now singular, assigned to your case says that he'll contact the department over there. He tells you they'll look into it and, once again, he says that they'll do everything they can to find your wife.
It's not good enough for you. That last comment made you feel sure that they were in fact not doing everything they could to find her. So, after some thought, you decide to go to Chicago to look for her yourself. You talk to Tulip about it. She thinks the whole thing sounds sketchy but, seeing your determination, she stops trying to argue with you. You get her to agree to watch the kids while your gone.
With everything settled you pack a few days worth of clothes, kiss your kids good-bye, and head off to find your wife.

The story forks from here. Follow either your (Steve's) story, or Jet's story.
