"My husband does the same thing! God, it's so aggravating, right?", Mandy's mother laughs. You let out a laugh as well; your first one in what feels like a long time. "Hah, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has to put up with crap crap."
You and Mandy's mother, Joyce, get lost in conversation for a while. You two had met in the past, but never really gotten to know one another. After talking at some length, you come to find out that she's a rather nice, caring mother. The poor women has a lot on her plate, between her two daughters and her neglectful husband. She doesn't say as much, but he also gathers that she doesn't usually have someone else to talk to.
Your conversation goes off the rails after you suspect that Joyce might be warming to you a bit too much.
"It's nice to know that there still are nice guys around, you know?" Joyce smiles down at you. You see a kind of weird look in her eye when she says this. A moment goes by without either of you saying anything. "Say", you break the silence, "we should really check on the kids. I haven't been able to talk to Jet all day. It'd be nice to check up on him."
It looks like your comment broke Joyce's train of thought. She stares blankly at you for a second before responding, "Oh, yeah, okay. Let's go."
She carries you out of the bedroom, you sitting on her palm.
