You win! Tiny Way Of Life chapter 20 by copier · original author: a27293

"Bring it!" You shout, seizing the chance to get out of your oddly specific penalty for losing last night's game. Strangely enough, (given how much she seemed to like eating you), Sora looks somewhat surprised and even a little disappointed.

She rallies, and tosses her head. "Fine!" She says, indignantly, and then starts musing to herself. "I wonder if I should still put him in my sock until breakfast..."

"Hey, that wasn't part of the deal!" You shout.

Sora goes on as if you hadn't said anything. "Nah... I don't want him to it taste like feet when I'm eating him later!" She jokes and then sticks her tongue out at you, before putting it back in. As an afterthought, she licks her lips and then grins. "Come on, Stevie," she says tauntingly, holding out her hand for you to climb on. "You can ride in my socks when I poop you out again!"

"I'd say something clever, but, meh." You shoot back, stepping onto her palm. "No need."

"Hmph!" Sora adopts a look of indignant indifference as she brusquely carries you down the steps. Once you've got hold of your balance, you do the same.

When Sora grabs you and dumps you into her bowl of cereal, minutes later, you spring into action and show the kid you weren't bluffing. Now that you know what's coming, you're no longer taken by surprise when you're dumped into the bowl, for starters.

You twist during the fall, and hit the water in such a way as to immediately find the bottom of the bowl with your feet as you crashed through it. Letting yourself sink down under the cereal rather than try to soften the landing, you crouch on the bottom of the bowl and then spring into action, launching yourself up and outward. You break surface without a good view of where you're going, as milk and cereal block out your vision once again, but you reach ahead and pull yourself forward mightily with a double-armed stroke anyway. You know she'll be mixing the bowl soon.

Sure enough, a dim flash immediately cuts across your blurred vision, and you feel the current pull you in and aside after it. Too little and too late, though. You find bottom with your feet, as the current pulls you forward and then abates, and you jump forward again. The second pass of the spoon starts building the whirlpool that had dragged you to the center of the bowl every time before, but again, it's too little and too late for her.

One more leap forward, against the now-building current, and you grasp the rim of the bowl with your hands. One more jump and a good pull with it, and you're out of the bowl entirely. You land hard on the table beneath it, clutching a soggy Cheerio in one hand and raising a fist to the sky with the other. "Yess!" You call out, delighting in flawless victory.

You take a moment to wipe soggy cereal from your eyes (again), and the first thing you really see is that a massive shadow falls over you. "Sora, no, I won!" You shout, as massive lips close around you, Sora slurping you off the table along with the cereal you've spilled. "This is cheating! You shout at her now-familiar gaping throat, as you're sucked in towards it. Your hard-won cereal is ripped out of your grasp, and swallowed down without effort in front of you.

To your relief, though, Sora had only been teasing you there. Lifting her head up, she pulls you out of her mouth by the legs, while sucking the cereal off of your body. "Okay, fine!" She pouts, setting you gently down by the cereal bowl again. "You win... this time." She turns her nose up.

"Better luck next time, kiddo" you tell her airily, waving it off. "Now, lemme' get some of that breakfast."

"Hey, be nice!" She protests. Ignoring her, you carry on the act.

"Boy, it sure makes me hunger being an absolute winner all the time. Yup, what can I say. Winning is hard work, am I right? Say, you there. You, girl. Am I right? Wait, are you a winner too, or is it just me here?" You boast, puffing out your chest.

Sora raises her hands with clenched fists, and you feel a tinge of panic as you're reminded of how small you are, and you suddenly fear that you've just gone too far. Even an angry twelve-year-old is a very serious threat to someone like you, after all, which is something you've somewhat forgotten after being out of society for so long.

Instead of doing anything threatening, though, Sora just raises her fists to cover her eyes and face, and then stoops over and asks you in a sad, trembling voice: "Hey S-Steve, c-can I... can I choose the next game we play?"

What? You wonder. She's been fine with poking fun at you all this time, and this is how she takes a joke? Oh, wait. Crap. She had that whole thing with bullying in her past, you realize. Now you feel kind of bad. Wait. But that doesn't mean you're going to let her eat you again, or anything. It's not like all this is your fault.

"Uhh. Only if it's fair." You manage, unsure how else to deal with this. "If we can agree it's fair. Okay?"

"Great!" Just like that, all of Sora's nostalgia disappears, replaced with an open, gleeful, self-satisfied expression. The little actress! "In that case, when I'm done with homework we should play..."
