A Natural Progression Tiny Way Of Life chapter 11 by copier · original author: wr1ter98

As the day goes by you and Emily converse, you in Morse code, her through the deep vibrations of her voice. At this point it's less like listening to her and more like feeling her words. All things considered you manage to talk pretty well, though at some points you're too cramped to be able to tap properly.

"So how did you even get there last night?"

You can feel what you assume is a sigh.

"Got a call on patrol last night from one of the neighbors. 'Suspicious activity,'" Emily says in a mocking tone, "Mrs. Rockwell is a nice enough old lady, but by god she's paranoid. 99 times out of a hundred her calls are nothing."

"But not last night."

"Nope. I had a feeling as soon as I got there that something was up. Turns out I was right, unfortunately."

"I feel that." Literally, you think.

As it happens, most of Emily's day is scheduled to be in her squad car checking up on at-risk residents. Normally the movement would bother you, but between your conversations with Emily and your worry about Angela (obviously you haven't heard from her, and you have no intention of asking Emily), your physical discomfort is the last thing on your mind.

As you're chatting, the topic inevitably gets to school. You roll your eyes as much as you can. You'd had this conversation more times than you could count, though judging by your grades in math, that wasn't much.

"So what are your plans for college?"

"I haven't decided yet. I've visited a few campuses, but none of them can accommodate me."

"Understandable, I suppose."

"My grades are pretty much average, so Ivy Leagues are obviously out of the question."

"Obviously. Do you know what you want to study?"

You shrug as much as you can.

"No idea. I thought about medicine, but math is pretty important for that, and my math grades suck."

"I could help you, if you want. I was a math tutor in college and I still remember a few things. I'd be happy to help you out."

"Really? That would be awesome."

"Great." You feel the car come to a stop. "All right, I think it's time for you to come out. I'll see if Mr. Gonzales will let me use his restroom."

The door opens and closes, and you feel Emily walking. You hear what you assume is a doorbell, then muffled speech. She continues walking, then starts shifting. It's time.

She grunts as your slide out of her. You blink in what to you is bright light, though it's really dull fluorescent.

"Welcome back," Emily says, smirking, "I trust you enjoyed your trip?"

You groan, stretching. "Hardly."

She laughs. "Here, let's hose you off."

She warms up the sink, then turns around as you peel off your clothes and rinse off, then clean your clothes as much as you can. It's not perfect, but it'll do.

"Could you dry me off?"

Emily grabs a towel and gently pats you dry, then sets you down on the counter.

"Better?"

"Much better."

"So," Emily clears her throat, "Where would you like to ride now that you're out?"
