This changes things.
You’ve been accidentally transported to every room in your house before (more times than you care to remember), but unless you missed some serious interior decorating, this isn’t your house.
You’re in what appears to be a large master bedroom. The walls are a pale blue and there are painted vines around the bed’s headboard. The room is a little cluttered; you can see books stacked in the corner and a bra hanging over a chair. The room has several scented candles burning, filling the air with the scent of vanilla. Somehow, that isn’t comforting.
“Mom! Are you...”
“Steve, it isn’t what it looks like.”
“Are you sure? ‘Cause it looks to me like you’re fucking around.”
“Steven Douglas McMinor! I will not have that kind of language from you!”
“Want to fill me in on what’s happening, then?”
Your mom sighs and set you down next to her on the bed, then sits back.
“You know your father’s been gone a while now.”
“Yeah, but what-”
“I need to feel alive, Steve!” Your mom turns to you in desperation. “Do you have any idea how much stress I’m under on a daily basis? I’m a mother of three, and between work, family, and bills, I need to unwind! This is the only place I can do that.” She sighs.
You open your mouth to respond, but before you get a chance, the door opens.
