I'm saved! Oh, no! Tiny Way Of Life chapter 10 by copier · original author: primus359

Relief floods through you! Maybe it's that muscle bound clod who abandoned you. Even if it's not, whoever it is has got to be a better option that being stuck alone in the woods.

You spin around on the tree root intending to welcome your savior only to stop midway. It seems that your 'savior' is in fact a large toad. You're eyes wander up the side of the largest toad you've ever seen as it sits calmly beside you.

It hasn't seen you yet and you realize, with horror, that had it seen you before you'd seen it; it's tongue would have snatched you up like lighting and deposited you in it's belly before you even realized what was happening. That being said, you suddenly feel very exposed sitting on your tree root and , as quietly as you can, you slide off it and crouch down, keeping as much of the exposed root between you and your new best friend as possible.

You peek out from behind just enough to keep an eye on your new threat. It's dull green skin looks damp to the touch. It's thick legs immediately puts a stop to any idea of trying to outrun it. One quick hop and you'd be froggie chow.

You quickly pull your head back into hiding as you realize the toad is turning in your direction. 'Hiding.' You almost have to laugh as your realize that to most people, you're trying to hide yourself behind something the size of a trashcan from something the size of a three story house.

'Please just don't see me,' you think desperately as the exposed feeling you had before gives way to a trapped feeling now.

Suddenly, you feel the air come alive as something shoots over your head and it is only by the luckiest of chances that you don't scream out at the sudden movement. The toads tongue has just shot out far beyond you and you just have time to turn your head to look at the intended target before it's yanked back past you again. A mouse. It's caught a mouse. This thought is confirmed a moment later as, from behind the root, you hear a brief squeak following by a wet gulp and then silence.

It's several moments before you dare poke your head out from the root again. You find you don't actually want to poke you head out enough to see the toads face now; but you can easily see it's large body. Sudden nausea hits as you can see it's stomach move and twitch from the inside as it's recent meal struggles for survival. That could easily be you, you realize.

'Maybe it's full now,' you think. But something deep down warns you that this is not the case. It's hungry. And something soft, pink, and approximately 14 years of age would really hit the spot for it.

You realize that you only, really have two options. Stay, try to wait the toad out. Flee, hope the toad doesn't notice.
