She's just playing. Tiny Way Of Life chapter 8 by copier · original author: matheson

Your mother lowers you down toward her waiting mouth. The hot air makes your eyes squint, but you still get a pretty good view of the pancake pieces sitting inside. You dangle just over her lips as she closes them into a smile, “After all...” She swallows and opens her mouth up again. This time her mouth is empty and clean of pancake. She wags her tongue left and right to show you that it's all gone. “...That could have been you.” The sight of it all makes you sweat. At least, you think that's sweat you feel... It’s probably sweat.

Your mother was right, though. You were the one foolish enough to trust your little sister, making you partially to blame for your circumstances. She lets you hang there for a moment, probably to let her point sink in, before lowering you down onto the table. She releases you and starting grabbing her plates. Finally free to move on your own, you get to work dislodging the syrup from your mouth. It takes far longer than it should to get it all out, but eventually you are free to speak again. It’s a wonder that people don’t use this stuff as glue.

You were so intent on clearing the syrup that you forgot about your mother. Turning around, you see that she is currently washing off her plates in the sink. You want to ask her what she plans to do with Tulip, but the noise of her cleaning is too loud for you to get her attention. You open your mouth to shout, but then remember where that got you last time so you close it back up.

Sitting down on the tabletop, you decide to wait until she’s done.
