The world was ending.
"Rei!"
That was the only explanation for what was happening. It was the apocalypse. The end of mankind. It had to be. Otherwise... how could things have gone so wrong?
Hisashi, kind, reliable, tough Hisashi- her boyfriend- was dead. His body smashed on the pavement of the school's parking lot, having fallen all the way down from the roof.
The school was overrun with those... things! The students and teachers were being slaughtered- Rei had just barely made it outside of the school, escaping the rampaging dead with Takashi... and the scenes she'd witnessed in the rooms and halls of the school had been something out of her worst nightmares! Blood and gore covered the walls and floor, those things were attacking and eating anyone they got their hands on...
"Rei!"
And now this happened! Rei had, for the briefest moment felt a spark of hope in her chest. Freedom- she, Takashi, and the others in there little group had made it past all of the monsters in the school building, and had had made it to the parking lot. Shizuka, a woman who every single female at school felt envious towards for two particular reasons had the bright idea of taking a van from the school's parking lot. It had enough room to fit everyone in their little group...
But as soon as they'd exited the doors to the school, things had gone so wrong.
They'd been jumped out of nowhere by a pack of them that had somehow evaded sight or hearing... and while nobody in the group had been bitten (she hoped), Takashi had... Takashi had...
"Rei!"
There had been one of 'them' different than the others. Rather than being a shambling undead clad in everyday clothes, it had been wearing some kind of protective suit. Like... a hazmat suit, or something.
That wasn't what was important- what was important that as it had gone down some kind of liquid had erupted from its torn suit. Takashi had been the closest to it, having been fighting it, and had been the only person to get hit.
He'd looked at her for the briefest instant, meeting her frightened gaze...
And then he'd vanished.
One second he'd been there, the next second...
