Spiders can be considered on of the many misunderstood animals of the natural world. Their fright inducing appearance, and a lack of knowledge on the part of some humans, being a prime factor in many cases like it's own that had earned it a spot as one of the more feared creatures of nature. True, spiders themselves are a little scary with their eight hair legs, eight eyes, and a tendency to trap their victims and suck their bodily fluids dry in a rather disturbing display of how to have a meal. Fear and terror would easily envelope the world had their been a human sized spider roaming around somewhere; as they say, something can only get worse the minute it starts to get bigger. Unfortunately, the fact that there really was a giant spider lurking deep under ground was not far from the truth...if you consider the spider witch, Arachne, a giant spider that is. Labled a Heretic 800 years ago, and nearly hunted down by a (much more serious) Shinigami-sama, Arachne was by no means bothered on this fear of spiders that many seemed to hold within them. Being the leader of her expansive organization, adeptly named after the fear of the very animal she represents, Arachne would use her influence to push aside those who feared her and strove to attain the goal of becoming madness incarnate.
...Of course, this wasn't exactly saying that this day was as eventful as anyone would assume within a villianess' lair. Sure there was the knowledge that her diligent followers were all working toward the goal she so eagerly wanted to grasp, but within the dining room of the immense Castle of Baba Yaga it was all but a symphony of utter silence. It was around lunchtime so she was not alone here; Mosquito, her loyal butler for well over 800 years, was present in this deathly silent chamber and while he seemed to enjoy the meal in front of him (taking the occasional drink of red wine to was it down). Giriko, the dark weapon that had allied himself with her, was within the room as well, although he seemed to be fairly content with downing the ever present bottle of hard liquor he was greedily chugging down. Giriko was far from the man Arachne would really consider making a servant but, he proved useful in her plans so, she generally tried not to pay attention to his rude behavior, dirty language, and overall unrefined nature. Arachne found that, while the other two men in the room were okay with eating (or drinking what they had) she...did not crave what was laid out ahead of her. Oh, by all means, she hungered for sustinance...it was just that what was on her plate did not do the best of jobs in meeting the high standards of this strange, new hunger that was radiating from the witch's belly. Arachne gazed to neatly prepared tenderloin, still hot and fresh from the steaming kitchens of her castle hideaway, the smell was absolutely wonderful...but, it was not the kind of meal Arachne wished to sink her teeth into. No, she wanted something different, as selfish as it was, she needed something special to rid herself of this nagging hunger pain that refused to settle until it got the exact food it wanted.
Mosquito, being ever so observant over his mistress' well being, was the first to take note of how Arachne didn't make much of an effort to eat today's meal. Naturally concearned, the ancient butler spoke up, "Is something the matter, Arachne-sama?" There was a reason Mosquito was Arachne's butler for well over 800 years, and it didn't come from being like any old butler. Anything that considered his spider themed mistress was handled with as much care as he could possibly muster. Sure, the dozens of robe wearing mooks of Arachnephobia weren't exactly the best at keeping Arachne satisfied...but, while he still drew breathe from this withered old body of his...he would make damn sure that anything Arachne needed, or wanted, she got and thensome.
"I can't eat this..." Arachne muttered, her web patterned pupils beginning to glare at her plate with distaste. Immedieatly picking up on her tone, Mosquito first and only response was of displeasure and a general frustation toward those chefs who claimed they put alot of time and effort into making Arachne's meal. Once he managed to figure out an alternative dish for his mistress, a few of those guys would be looking at a fist full of unemployment. Unfortunately, Giriko also managed to pick up on this and being the kind of man of speak his mind...he did just that...
"Eh, what's wrong with what ya have?" The drunken chainsaw weapon slurred, craning his head to look at the intact plate of food in front of his superior. "Tch, that shit looks pretty damn good to me. Why don'tcha just eat it and quit bein' sucha spoiled bitch." Giriko took another swig of his liquor, soon finding that his friend had run on empty, much to his disdain. Of course, empty liquor bottles was not the issue that irked someone like Mosquito who was practically on fire with an outrage toward that insolent young weapon who had absolutely no respect for Arachne and also didn't seem to know the meaning of the most basic of manners, be they table or no. However, Mosquito had far more important things to worry of, mainly Arachne, so it would be best to focus on his mistress and leave that saw toothed drunk to his abscence of alcohol.
"If I may, Arachne-sama," Mosquito began putting his full attention to the woman ahead of him. "What is it that you want to eat? I can fetch one of the servants to see that you get whatever it is that you hunger for." Arachne remained locked in silence but, generally showed that she heard the butler in his offer to fix things. Unfortunately, there was nothing the servants could give her that would sate the hunger roaring within her. No, this was something that could not be satisfied with delicately prepared dishes...it was something much more primal and macarbe...even for someone like her. Medusa, Arachne's younger sister, would probably like the idea quite a bit but, Arachne herself considered herself too much a lady to even consider this. Of course, as much as a lady she may think she is...it did not erase the insatiable hunger gripping her stomach in it's vice and twisting it about into a knot of hunger pains.
"It's going to seem strange, but I suppose it's the best of times to speak up about it..." Arachne finally replied, Mosquito looking to her with curiosity on what sort of request she would make. Mosquito would work around the clock to fulfill any order Arachne gave him, there was no request too strange for him when it came from his spider like mistress. Arachne turned to the olden servant, her web patterned eyes taking on an ominous glow that would send shivers of absolute terror down any man's spine. "I want to eat live prey, Mosquito." Arachne confessed, her tone making it clear that she was as serious as a heart attack...despite how odd and out of the left field it seemed to be. In the centuries Mosquito has served Arachne, he's...never heard anything like this...nor was he actually expecting it. Who would, as a matter of fact. For the first time in a long time, Mosquito...didn't know how to answer his mistress' need.
Well...not yet anyway...
"Live prey?" Mosquito echoed, Arachne nodding in confirmation. "Might I ask on what sort of...prey you wish to eat then?"
Arachne took another moment of silence to answer his question but, again, decided that keeping this secret wouldn't be the best of solutions for her dilemma. "I have a taste for human flesh, it matters not if it's meister, weapon...or even a witch, for that matter." The last segment of her statement managed to not only surprise Mosquito, but Arachne herself. The spider witch would had never thought that she would grow so ravenous as to eat her own kind...yet, the impulse remained and it was quite real no matter how much disbelief was racing through her brain. Again...this was more Medusa's bag than hers...
Mosquito pushed aside the strange nature of Arachne's request, and simply focused on finding a way to satisfy it for her. As as it sounded, there were plenty of resources around that could work to please his mistress' new craving. There was, of course, the legion of nameless mooks that were affiliated with Arachnephobia, each one as expendable as the last. Grabbing one out of one thousand wouldn't exactly do that much harm to the overall quantity of Arachne's personal army. However...as Mosquito continued to process Arachne's words on what she wanted to eat...his red eyes drifted over to the one person he couldn't show more discontet toward, Giriko. The sawbladed weapon was an ally Mosquito did not want to be affiliated with if it insulted Arachne the way he did before...but, Arachne seemed to not mind him, or at least it appeared that way. With this hunger for living flesh, Mosquito could easily be rid of Giriko by 'feeding' him to Arachne. It would be the loss of an ally, but Mosquito could find better ones than this booze guzzling bastard...
