fearboy
The boy remained still, even when Misty bent down, he made no attempt to run. Misty tilted her head to one side, trying to look closely at the bug sized human at her feet. It was kind of hard for her to see anything small at her giant size, hence the reason for the property damage caused by accidentally stepping on things. Misty’s sight wasn’t great, but it was good enough that she could see that she had a young boy in front of her and he was upset. None of this was particularly new for Misty. She usually fed on the young, old people were too stringy. Also, she had yet to meet someone that wasn’t at least a little disturbed by her giant presence. This time was different though, the boy wasn’t upset because of Misty. Something else was bothering him and Misty was curious.
“Hey kid, what’s the deal?” Misty insensitively asked. The boy sniffed loudly and lowered his head. He wasn’t answering Misty either out of fear or stubbornness. Not getting an answer angered Misty and she was about to ask crassly again, but Ash decided to try a gentler approach.
Ash smiled down to the boy, waving his hands so he’d notice him standing on Misty’s shoulder. The boy looked up, staring right at Ash. Loudly, Ash called out, “What’s your name?”
The boy looked uncertain for a moment, perhaps worried about talking to strangers. Ash didn’t rush him to respond, he just kept smiling and trying to seem no threatening to the scared you boy on the ground. Finally, the boy mustered up the courage to speak.
“Max! My name is Max!”
“Nice to meet you Max,” Ash called back. “Why were you crying, Max?”
Max again went quiet as if he was contemplating something hard. Something broke inside him and the tears started flowing from his eyes. A doleful cry burst from his lungs and he ran to Misty, hugging her ankles. Misty looked at the bite-sized boy hugging her in confusion, while Ash looked at Max with concern. Crawling down Misty’s arm as fast as he could, Ash dropped to the ground beside Max and took the scared boy into his arms. Rocking him gently, Max’s story came pouring out between sobs.
“I was traveling with my sister, when she left me behind. She had this new power that makes her real bossy. We had to leave our home because everyone was afraid of her. I thought that if I stayed with her, she would go back to being my old sister, but she just kept getting meaner and meaner until she wasn’t my sister anymore. She told me I was too feeble to even eat and she left me at the side of the road all alone!”
Ash patted Max on the back as he told his story, trying to comfort him the best he could. “There, there,” he repeated, not knowing what else to say. The young man had gone through a traumatic experience and Ash had to wonder what kind of girl abandons her own little brother. Max had buried his head into Ash’s chest since saying that he had been left all alone. When he pulled his head back, he looked up at Ash through big teary eyes and told him more.
“But that’s not all. I stayed in the spot my sister had left me, thinking she’d come back, but she never did. Some boys came by this morning, they were trainers like my sister wanted to be once. I asked for their help, but they laughed at me and called me a twerp. They asked if I had any money and I showed them the money I’d been saving. One of them must have punched me out and taken my money because the next thing I knew I was lying on the ground with everything I own gone. Even my glasses were taken!”
“That’s horrible!” Ash gasped while shaking his head in disbelief at what Max had to be going through. Abandoned and then robbed, it didn’t get any worse then that.
“Yah,” Misty agreed with less enthusiasm. “How many boys were there and what did they look like?”
“Huh?” Max grunted, breaking away from Ash for a second to see Misty peering down at him with a cheerful expression. She grinned at the little boy, dazzling him with ten feet of pearly white teeth. The sight of huge teeth baring down on would frighten most people, but Max wasn’t afraid. Maybe it was because Misty and Ash were the first people that had shown him any kindness in such a long while, or maybe it was because he could barely see Misty without his glasses.
“Well,” Max mumbled, trying to remember what the boys that attacked him looked like. “There were three of them, all about eleven or twelve. One of them was kinda pudgy with freckles and red hair. Another was short, maybe younger then the others, with long brown hair and a scarf. The last boy was the leader and he was tall and muscular, he’s the one that called me a twerp.”
Max breathe in deeply through his nose at the memory of his attackers. Ash was at his side, smiling and trying to cheer the poor boy up. Misty had practically forgotten about Max, her mind was on much more delicious matters. The description Max gave of his attackers were like something out of Misty’s dream menu. Each boy had a particular body type and a different flavor. Fat kids were kind of greasy, but they filled Misty up. Young and short boys had a taste to them that could only be found in fresh meat. But It was the leader though that made Misty lick her lips. It was hard to find muscular boys these days; obesity was an epidemic after all. Even trainers were not always in shape. Too many of them rode around on their Pokemon and ate junk food, becoming flabby and greasy. A nice lean boy was just what Misty needed and his two friends would make for such good desert.
“Don’t worry Max. We’ll find those punks and get your stuff back!” Misty declared.
“Really?” Max asked, his eyes wide and sparkly at the prospect of having help.
“You bet, no way are we going to let a bunch of punk trainers get away with what hey did.” Ash thumped Max on the back to raise the boy’s spirits back up. Ash wanted to help Max, and unlike Misty, it had nothing to do with food. Looking at this beaten down, poor boy, Ash’s heart went out to him. No one should have to deal with the kind of horrors Max went through and Ash was determined to set it right. That was the whole reason he went on his Pokemon journey, to make friends and help people.
“We’ll punish those jerks for you,” Misty added and shrank down. Ash looked at the normal sized girl and nodded. He was glad to have Misty in his corner. He knew she wasn’t the kind and loving type, but even she must want justice for what happened to Max.
Max looked between the two older kids, confused and scared, before he was filled with an over powering joy. He jumped forwards, grabbing Misty and Ash in a huge hug.
“Onii-chan! Onei-chan!”
The pair looked at one another as Max hugged them, unsure about how to feel about the nicknames. It was kind of sweet that the kid thought of them as family, but they barely knew him. After everything he’s gone through, it seemed that he was latching on to them and that worried them both a little. When they looked at the small boy, snuggling between them, they decided to put it out of their minds.
“Come on, Onei-chan. We got to hurry if we’re going to catch those thieves.”
At hearing Ash call her that, Misty. She retained her composure and glared at her uppity slave. If that was the game he wanted to ply, then lets play.
“I’m on my way, Onii-chan.”
Misty laughed when Ash nearly fell forward at hearing her call him that. This was turning out much more amusing then Misty. Her eyes cast on Max, she had never planned to eat him; he was bruised. Misty didn’t eat damaged meat, it ruined the taste. Max may have been off the menu, but those three punks weren’t. Misty could practically taste them now, she’d soon have a stomach full of yummy, yummy wiggling boys.
