Ryuga’s casual explanation that digested bodies could be reconstructed left both Mahoro and Minawa speechless. Their abilities were never fully explained to them, mostly because the people that built them didn’t fully understand. All androids were based on Saint technology, which humanity was just starting to understand and apply. It was theorized by the Keepers and VESPER that the digestion option in the androids bodies was there solely to get rid of any ingested matter. The idea of bringing back something that has been digested was never considered.
“But the keepers told me that once something is digested, it’s gone forever?” Minawa finally said, breaking the silence. The shy, faint-hearted girl had found her voice before her sister because this applied to her more then Mahoro. Minawa had digested hundreds of people for the Keepers before her Rapid Digest was damaged. If there was some way to make up for the lives she took, she really wanted to know right now.
Sighing, Ryuga sat down between the two fellow androids on the couch. “For food, yes. Once non-living matter is digested, it’s gone for good. But if something you eat has a soul, it can be brought back.”
“A-a s-s-soul,” stuttered Minawa. She placed her hand on her stomach, now pudgy after her large meal. Were there souls inside her?
“You really don’t know?” Ryuga asked with an amused grin. “Returning digested life forms to life is the androids ultimate purpose. You see we were designed to carry the entire population of destroyed planets in our bodies. We digest the original bodies of the plants inhabitants, but their souls linger inside our robotic bodies. The souls stay safe inside us until we can find a safe planet, there we reconstruct the bodies and give the digested inhabitants new life. We even get to keep the extra mass we gained if we so wish.”
Ryuga smiled, remembering back to all the people he’d eaten and brought back. The men sometimes found it disgusting, but quite a few women seemed to get oddly attracted to him afterwards. It was like they bonded with him while they were inside him, but that was impossible. Saint assured him that there were no long-term effects of the reconstruction process.
“So, can I bring back the people I’ve eaten?” Ryuga’s daydream popped at hearing a question being directed towards him. He turned to look at Minawa and broke into a cold sweat at seeing the tears building up in her eyes. Finding out if she could bring back the people she’d eaten was very important to her. He really hated what he was going to say.
“I’m sorry, but with your Rapid Digestion damaged, bring back people you’ve eaten might be too dangerous.” He ended it at that, Minawa didn’t have to know the grizzly details of what reconstruction with a damaged Rapid Digestion could be like.
An awkward silence settled in the room, as Minawa lowered her head in sadness, not saying anything after finding out she couldn’t help the people she had eaten. Ryuga wanted to say something, but he wasn’t very good at human emotions and couldn’t think of what to say. He wished something could disrupt this heartbreaking moment.
“THE FLOOZY STAYS!” Mahoro abruptly shouted angrily. Minawa and Ryuga stared at her strangely, to which Mahoro responded by laughing weakly. After Ryuga dropped the bombshell about reconstruction, Suguru had been whispering to Mahoro that maybe she should bring back Ms. Shijiko. Mahoro had been listening to his pleas, trying to figure out a reason to keep the teacher inside her. Suguru was arguing that Shijiko was still a person and keeping her soul trapped inside Mahoro wasn’t fair. Sure, he had supported Mahoro when she decided to digest Shijiko, but back then he thought they had no other choice. Now that there was the option of bringing her back on the table, Suguru just couldn’t let it go. He wanted Mahoro to bring Ms. Shijiko back to life, but in the end, it was Mahoro’s choice.
“What are you talking about, sister?” Minawa asked, her own problems put to the side as she dealt with Mahoro’s own issues.
“Nothing, just Suguru suggested something I really don’t want to do.” Mahoro placed her hand on her belly, feeling Suguru moving around inside her. She wanted to make him happy and do as he asked, but the thought of seeing Ms. Shijiko again made her feel sick.
“If it’s about brining someone back that you’ve digested, I recommend you do it. Leaving a soul inside you when you have a choice is wrong,” Ryuga firmly said.
“But…but…but…” Mahoro rambled, unable to give a reason why she shouldn’t help the ecchi teacher. She hated Ms. Shijiko, but the more she thought about it, the more she wasn’t certain that letting her stay dead when she could be brought back was morally right. Mahoro was at a crossroad, do the right thing and bring back her mortal enemy, or act evil and keep her soul inside her forever?
