Misato had been briefed on all of the events that had happened prior to her arrival. Of everything she had heard, the one thing that had bothered her was simple. She hadn't had nearly as much time with Shinji as Rei had. And with Rei asking for Shinji yet again, well, a line had to be drawn.
"I'm sorry Rei, but I'm keeping Shinji," she flatly answered, picking Shinji up carefully in one hand. He offered no resistance, choosing to lie peacefully in her warm grip.
"I see," Rei nodded. "And what of Asuka?"
"You can keep her if you want. I don't need her for right now, but I'm sure you'll find plenty of use for our tiny pilot, now won't you?"
"WHAT?!" the tiny shriek of Asuka clearly audible to all in the area. Smiling, both at Asuka's reaction and her own plan, continued to talk to Rei.
"So, I'm sure you'll be fine alone, right?"
"Alone?" Rei asked.
"Yeah. I'm going to have some "private time" in my room, and I'd like it to remain uninterrupted, if you know what I mean."
"I do not Captain."
Misato chuckled for a moment, her, Rei, and the tiny Shinji in her grip ignoring Asuka's rants and curses. "It means that for the next- say, four to five hours, I'll be in my room with Shinji, and I don't want to be disturbed."
"I understand," Rei answered. "I am free to use Asuka until then?"
"Use her all you want," Misato replied with a wink. "I'll see you later. Looking down at the tiny man in her grip, she began fantasizing about all the things she could do with such an adorable, tiny, and fully functional Shinji. The rants from Asuka continued even as she went to her room, but they remain unnoticed.
