"Where is Rei anyway?" Shinji thought aloud. Touji couldn't help but smirk a bit.
"She's probably having one of those 'episodes'. What's the matter Shinji, lonely?"
"Why the hell would Shinji be lonely without Wondergirl?" Asuka interjected, more than happy to change the subject. "You really think he misses the albino?"
"Maybe because she doesn't hit everyone the first chance she gets!"
Asuka was taken aback by the comment, only to slap Touji upside his head a moment later. "Why I never!"
While the two continued to argue, Hikari appeared to have a slight sense of worry in her eyes. "I thought they said that she had the issue under control. I can't believe something like that would just appear again. I just hope those scientists can fix it."
"What appear?" Shinji asked.
"You know," Hikari answered as if a rather dumb question was asked. "That. Don't you remember?"
"Of course," Shinji answered, chuckling, partly to avoid having to explain his lack of knowledge about the situation, and partly to vent the frustration he had. In his mind, he made note of yet another mystery he needed to solve. After class of course. He had promised Misato that he wouldn't miss any of his courses. "Shouldn't you see her? You are the class president."
"I think you'd rather go. After last time..."
Pondering yet another cryptic phrase, Shinji's attention was soon turned elsewhere.
"Just admit that you liked what you saw!"
"BAKA!"
The thunderous slap of Asuka's hand on Touji's head interrupted any thoughts of the current mystery. This was much more entertaining. Even Hikari chuckled a bit as she looked at Touji on the ground, reeling.

School for the most part was uneventful. Same courses, same people (albiet a bit hungrier than usual) and the same sort of environment that he had grown used to. It was rather comforting, which isn't something teenagers usually associate with school. The day passed rather quickly, allowing Shinji to head for NERV headquarters.
Apparently, according to Hikari, Rei was being treated for something here. What, he didn't know. It could be anything. As he stood in front of the twin steel doors one of the personnel had directed him towards, Shinji couldn't help but feel several emotions. First, why was there always a door hiding the revelations in this world? Couldn't it be a bit more obvious?
Secondly, why did Shinji have the strange feeling that this was connected to one of his fantasies? He didn't know why, but he could have sworn this wasn't the medical wing, but rather by one of the EVA cages, for whatever that meant. Knowing that standing there wouldn't answer his question, Shinji did the only thing he had been able to do since arriving. He opened the door and walked forward, deeper into the new world.
