"The Angels?" Shinji asked, confused by Ritsuko's almost passive dismissal of what Shinji remembered to be the whole reason for NERV's existence. Instead, he got a soft chuckle when the question was bought up again.
"Don't tell me you're starting to get worried too," Ritsuko answered. "Those worrywarts in clinical keep saying 'Oh the Angels are going to return,' but there's been no evidence that any of them even survived Operation Giga, much less that there's another source for them in this entire universe. There's less and less evidence every day that they're going to return, so why are you worried about what a few cranky old scientists think?"
Operation Giga. Shinji didn't know what it was exactly, but apparently it entailed the complete destruction of the Angels. Obviously such a dramatic event would be recorded, so he'd be able to view the information at a later date. No need to bug Ritsuko about it.
"Well, you know," Shinji answered, rubbing his head as he fumbled for an answer, "I am the pilot of Unit 1, and if they did..."
"Oh, does wittle Shinji want to play Mazinger again?" Ritsuko teased, her hand running up his leg and alarmingly close to his crotch. "I thought you hated piloting Unit 1 but everytime you run past Dr. Kabuto, he keeps bringing it up and you keep asking around about it. The guy's paranoid, just like Gendo. Wouldn't you rather just relax with someone close?" she added, while rubbing his thigh.
While a part of Shinji was enjoying the Ritsuko's sudden and forceful affection, for the most part, the young boy still found it too weird to be enjoyable. At best, Ritsuko was a confidant in the old world. Now apparently she and a whole bunch of other women couldn't keep their hands off of him. Misato...
Him and Misato? And more importantly, him and Misato AND Asuka? If he was doing Rei too, that would be the whole triple...
How could he think such perverted things? It was too weird, not to mention completely unthinkable in the prior world. And yet, it was expected in a bizzare sort of way. Rei/Lilith had granted his fantasies life, and he had always had latent feelings for her, not to mention, he had detected something from Misato that she wouldn't act upon, something that without a war going on, was now free to blossom.
A grin formed across Shinji's face at the possibilities in front of him. No war and a lot of love. At least, that's what the first impression of the situation had given. The grin quickly vanished as Shinji remembered one of life's rather painful lessons, there was always a catch, something that made life worse than he was hoping it would be.
The train of thought was violently interrupted by a yelp as he realized Ritsuko's hand was right on his crotch, bringing him closer to her. The hungry look in her eyes suggested that she wanted him, and wasn't going to take no for an answer.
"Ritsuko?"
"Oh come on. I'm not going to let Misato have you all to herself, now am I?" she whispered into his ear, licking her lips. Even though he was being turned on by the forceful advance, he was also being equally freaked out. There was something he needed to say.
