"Ayanami..." Shinji called out in a restrained, gentle voice. He hugged his stomach to prevent any sudden movements from Asuka. Rei flinched as the boy unexpectedly revealed his presence in the room, but she quickly returned to her neutral emotional state.
"Ikari?" Rei looked around for the boy, finding nothing. "Where are you?"
"I'm in the shower..." Shinji saw her shadow start to approach the curtain. "W-wait! I'm...not dressed!" he quickly added. Rei's silhouette halted and turned back as she returned to fastening her bra. After a few awkward seconds, she broke the silence. "Is there something you need?"
"...Actually, yes. I need to discuss something important concerning EVA..." Shinji jumped to the one field of knowledge she's be comfortable assisting him with. "Can you wait in the lobby for me?"
Rei continued dressing, leaving the boy in suspense on if the girl was going to fall right into his hands, and hopefully his mouth soon after. He started to imagine how the enigmatic girl would react to being eaten by the boy she might've considered a friend, remaining unsure if she'd accept such a bizarre end or reveal a deeply hidden fight-or-flight instinct.
"Understood." Rei responded after tucking her shirt in. "Do you know why Pilot Soryu's plugsuit is on the floor?"
"N-No, it was there when I arriURRRP" Shinji clasped his mouth shut at the gaseous interruption, terrified of how Rei would react. His stomach tightened further from the release, robbing Asuka of more space and oxygen. Her struggles began anew as Shinji tried to contain them.
"I suggest you alter your diet, Ikari-kun." Rei lectured passively before briskly walking out of the room, thankfully unaware. Shinji chuckled at the lecture, knowing full well he had no intention of changing back to a regular cuisine. Ayanami would come to understand that, first hand.
