Washu was stunned. She had been sure Kiyone's body had been trapped. How did she, no, they escape her security?
"I'll advise no sudden movements Miss Washu," Primaron's voice quickly ordered. "You see, I've used your console to set this entire laboratory to self destruct in 70 minutes, more than enough time for the rescue force I contacted to pick me up and send me on my way from this wasteland."
"Begin override sequence," Washu announced, but Primaron quickly interrupted.
"The self-destruct is password protected by a code that only I know and that you're not smart enough to guess," the arrogance in his voice pervasive. "Now be quiet and start moving. If you do everything I say, I may see fit to let your little laboratory survive. If you attempt to double-cross me, I will ensure that everything in one square kilometer is reduced to a crater."
Instead of moving, Washu asked "Why?"
"Why?" Primaron asked mockingly. "Because I once believed we were both studying for the same thing, the logical conclusion of grand experiments. And here I see you using my experiment for a completely irrelevant and pointless purpose!"
"What are you talking about?" Washu asked.
"I heard the programs you were feeding into your version of the Torn. I designed the Torn for espionage and mass destruction. You were programming it to give advice on finding women mates! That was not what it was designed for? When I reprogrammed your Hive, I gave utmost consideration to what you were trying to accomplish and went forward to complete those goals. This...thing is an abomination in comparison!"
"Because it's not designed to kill?" Washu shot back. "People invent because there's stuff the universe needs, and I know there's a lot of short and shy women that would kill for some extra confidence, and a lot of guys that would be very happy with what those girls would become."
"That is irrelevant!" Primaron shouted. "I wanted a weapon and you made a mating tool, something the universe does not..."
Washu interrupted "You mean you don't need."
"It is only the tiniest shred of respect for inspiring me that I do not destroy this laboratory and everyone here outright. Now, no more stupid comments," Primaron continued, motioning towards the exit. "If you do everything I say, I may, out of consideration for the spark of inspiration that you gave me, that I will spare your work. But know this, all that work was MY genius. I was a fool to admire you."
As Washu walked towards the exit, and began heading up the stairs, with Primaron right behind her, she could only wonder how the mad genius' ego was able to stay in Kiyone's head without making it explode.
"What do you want?"
"Find the boy named Tenchi and the Jurinian artifact he carries with him. Then meet me at the clearing located 2 kilometers from this dwelling. There, you will exchange the boy and the artifact and I will transmit the abort sequence for the lab. From there, I will take my leave."
"And if I say no, you'll blow up the whole house and my lab."
"You're not as stupid as I had previously thought," Primaron snickered. "You had better hurry. If the abort code isn't sent within the next...65 minutes, your lab is gone."
Washu grimaced, realizing there was little she could do with the egocentric scientist looking over her shoulder. But as she walked outside, both of them failed to notice the form walking back into the laboratory.
