Life really wasn’t fair. Edward knew that a long time ago when his dad abandoned his family and his mom died, but he never felt that statement was as true as it was now. It had been the perfect plan, a way to fix the biggest mistake Ed had ever made, returning his brother’s body. It involved a complicated transmutation circle that would place Al’s mind in a body and reconstruct it back to what he should look like today. Ed had bought all the ingredients needed to construct a human body and unlike the last time he tried this he had no fear of the Gate taking something in exchange. They weren’t bringing back the dead, just building a new body. There shouldn’t have been any problems.
Of course, there were problems. For some reason, that still baffled the youngest State Alchemist in history, instead of using the ingredients he brought, the flesh was taken from his body. There wasn’t much of him to begin with, what with the missing arm and leg, but the transmutation circle took his mass to give Al a body, leaving him, well, like he is now.
“Why the Hell do I have to be carried around in a pocket?” Ed screamed, his voice not reaching the giant he was currently riding around with. Al got his new body and Ed was left with the mass of an ant. The shrinking process returned his arm and leg, but he’d rather have all his limbs made of metal then be this small. He was tiny, more then tiny, he was near microscopic. He could stand on someone’s pinky. A matchbox was the size of a house to him. It took him hours to walk from one side of a table to the next. Ed was the smallest boy in history; it was his worst nightmare come to life.
The only thing that made things bearable was that he was being cared for. He knew that he wouldn’t last a minute on his own, he had nearly been sat on and stepped on by accident twice. He was never going to forget Roy’s boot as it nearly came down on him, every groove and stain under his shoe crystal clear as it came down on him. Ed thought he was going to be nothing but a smear under that boot until Roy moved his foot half an inch and missed him. Ed swore that the smug bastard had done it on purpose.
Now he stuck to his caregiver as close as possible, riding in their pocket, sleeping beside them, even sitting on the sink as they showered. Ed was closer to his caregiver then he would have liked, but it was necessary. He was no longer the Fullmetal Alchemist; he was the Fully-Miniaturized Alchemist now.
