Naruto allows himself to be dragged along by his girlfriend with a small smile on his face. Tonight had been nearly perfect... Had nearly been everything he ever dreamed of. Of course he always dreamed of Jiraiya being there, giving him a proud smile before hitting on Tsunade. But Jiraiya's absence didn't bother him tonight, Naruto knew that wherever Jiraiya was, he was watching.
What prevented the night from being completely perfect was the absence of the other original member of Team 7... Sasuke Uchiha. The man that Sakura worshiped when they were kids, the man who broke Sakura's heart... The man that was his brother. Looks like I can become Hokage without being able to save my friends after all... Naruto thinks sadly as a frown overtakes his face.
I wonder what you're doing now...Sasuke...
Sakura glances over her shoulder and is alarmed to see a frown on Naruto's face. She doesn't want him to frown... not ever, and especially not today. This day is supposed to be perfect for him. Sakura cups his cheek with her free hand and gives Naruto a concerned look.
"Hey... what's wrong?"
"It's nothing Sakura-chan." Naruto assures with a fake smile.
"How many times do I have to tell you Naruto, as my butt toy you don't get to hide anything from me. What's wrong?"
Naruto sighs. "It's just... Tonight... today was so close to being perfect... I mean... here I am, I've achieved all of my dreams... Yet I'm still a failure."
"WHAT?!" Sakura yells out loudly. "How the hell can you possibly think of yourself as a failure?"
"I couldn't fulfill my promise to you Sakura-chan... I couldn't save Sasuke. What kind of Hokage am I going to be if I can't even save a friend?"
"I told you a while ago that I don't care about that promise! I don't care about Sasuke like that anymore!"
"Ouch Sakura... that stings." A calm monotone voice calls out. Both Naruto and Sakura turn with wide eyes to the voice.
"Sasuke?!"
