“Who knows the technique?” Naruto asked, nearly jumping towards Shizune. All of that stupid detective work had been pointless. He shouldn’t have been looking for who would try to eat him, he should have rather been looking for who could eat him. That stupid quack’s idea to take notes had been completely pointless. Naruto gave himself a mental note t tell Kakashi to dock Keijo’s pay.
Shizune lowered her head and let out a sigh of distress. “I’m not sure if I should tell you. According to village bylaws, the identity of members of the village who know special jutsus is to remain secret to anyone without an Anbu rank. I could write a former request to the board of jutsu regulation and get a formal slip with the person’s name. It shouldn’t take more then a month, two if they’re swamped.”
It took a lot of self-restraint from Naruto to keep from banging his head against the wall. It always seemed that this village was trying to keep him down. Now, it’s stupid rules were going to kill him. If it wasn’t going on ridicules missions, like rescuing lost cats or picking up garbage, it was being placed in a team with a depressed avenger and his fan-girl. And he couldn’t even blame his ‘guest’ for this, the same pointless rules that applied to him, applied to everyone else. How could a village that focal point is in assassinations, be so formal and have so much red tape.
“Come on, Shizune, just give me a name,” Naruto pleaded, but Shizune wouldn’t budge.
“Sorry, rules are rules. I may let Tsunade bend the rules from time to time, but that is different, she’s the Hokage. Consider this a good lesson for when you become Hokage. Sometimes you have to wait for the system to process a request before getting what you want.” Shizune thought she was setting a good example for Naruto that would help him when he tried to take over the village. How was she to know that Naruto needed this information to survive the next twenty-four hours.
Naruto gritted his teeth, how could he get Shizune to agree to give him the name without revealing he had a stalker. This would be so easy if he was talking to Tsunade, she’d just shrug at practical and tell him the name over a bottle of sake. Thinking of the alcoholic Hokage, gave Naruto an idea to get a name out of Shizune.
“Tell you what,” Naruto said, getting a truly foxy grin. “Give me their name and I’ll tell you where Tsunade hoards her secret sake stash.” Chuckling darkly, Naruto congratulated himself on remembering that one mission where Tsunade asked him to pick up a case of sake for her. He’d dropped it off in her office, but not before catching her tucking it under a loose floor board under her desk.
A look of indecisiveness struck Shizune’s face. She wanted to uphold the rules, but she always wanted to keep the Hokage from getting wasted.
“Tell you what Naruto, how about I write down the address of the one person in the village that knows the Dolcett jutsu. That way, I won’t be officially breaking the rules, only bending them.” Shizune shuddered disgusted that she was even bending her precious rules. She’d have to bath heavily to get this dirty feeling to go away, of course, only after she poured all Tsunade’s sake down the drain.
“Deal!” Naruto cried, then handed Shizune his notebook. Writing the address down, Naruto snatched it back and ran out the door. He didn’t even look at the address until he was outside and running down the street. He was in a hurry. He had a freak to find.
“Hey, what about Tsunade’s stash!” Shizune called out, already left in the dust of the hyperactive ninja.
