Horror reentered your mind as Nancy muttered the words; you replayed it inside your head over and over in seconds, trying to find some sort of mistake you made in hearing Nancy. But there was no mistake, no echo that altered her voice, no cough or rasp that made it hard to understand, Nancy's words were as clear as the fact you were shrinking.
"Peter....there isn't a cure! If there was I would've fixed you by now!"
The hope that managed to build up in your brief window of opportunity all but crumbled away as the realization hit you. You were still shrinking, your life for all intents and purposes was over. Sure you wouldn't shrink into oblivion but a single accident, a misstep, an item dropped, anything could and would kill you. And even if such never happened, it was too late, you were going to become a centimeter tall, all the things you knew and loved would be pretty much gone forever. No more sports, time with friends, heck even school probably (not so bad). The only possible benefits you could see in this was how the foods you loved would be even more wonderful and how Nancy would be more and more beautiful and caring as you shrank. Nancy did this to you, even if out of guilt she wouldn't leave you, somehow that demented notion actually seemed comforting.
"Are you sure?" Was all you could let out as the thoughts and realizations hammered into you.
Her eyes filled with guilt Nancy nodded weakly, "Y-yes....sorry I gave you that false hope Peter...I'm...sorry."
Nancy's words hardly registered, your mind was still reeling over it all. First you were dying through the weirdest way possible, then you weren't and now you would be stuck shrunken anyway? God knows what things you would go through being shrunken, an over protective mom, school bullies, and even friends. The mere idea of what someone like a preppy cheerleader would do to you was horrifying.
"I-I...don't know what to do." You let out with a gasp.
Nancy appeared to hesitate before speaking, "Stay...with me." You looked at her in amazement, did you hear that right?
"Stay with me Peter, at least with my magic and knowledge you would be safe. God knows what people or scientists would do about this!"
It made sense actually, Nancy was responsible and she obviously knew everything about this. "What about my family? My friends?"
She shook her head, "Peter....you're not safe anywhere except here. It's the sad truth...but here...I'll be your lover and caretaker." Nancy smiled guiltily at you, "Please Peter..."
As if you didn't have enough on your mind before this just did it, now you had to contemplate abandoning everything for Nancy. "But...my family...I couldn't do that..."
"Just stay here Peter, they'll think you ran away or shrank sooner than expected."
"But...they're my family Nancy....I don't think I could do it."
Nancy's lip quivered, "I won't force you Peter, you can go home or stay with me. But you can't have it both ways."
You looked at Nancy with confusion, "You make it sound like you'd leave forever."
"I'd have to, after telling you this the only alternative to killing you would be moving so the whole Witch thing stays a secret. So Peter, what is it? Me, or your family?"
Inside you were having the mental battle from hell, words couldn't even come close to describing the torrents of emotions flowing throughout your body. Confusion, anger, depression, rage, fear, so many emotions you couldn't even make sense out of it. But...somehow the words came out of your mouth, almost without you realizing it.
