Supergirl, aka Kara Zor-El, was arguably the strongest being in the known universe. There were contenders to be certain. She had been sent to Earth to look after her infant cousin. Kara had been a teenager when Krypton started to fall apart due to an experiment that had gone horribly wrong. Her cousin had left Krypton early in the morning and Kara had left nearly a hour later when the planet finally exploded. The explosion had sent her space craft off coarse which caused it to orbit around Earth's yellow sun for nearly three decades. All that time Kara was in suspended animation due to the long journey from Krypton to Earth. Kara's dormant body had soaked up yellow sunlight when her spacecraft had finally crashed on Earth.
Kal-El, aka Clark Kent, aka Superman, had grown into a fully-grown adult and had become Earth's mightiest hero. Over the years, Kara had become a hero in her own right.
It took two or three punches from Kara to knock the steel door off its hinges and fly into the large chamber beyond. The large chamber was filled with scientific equipment, computers, personell of the research facility and the villains that had taken over the facility some two hours ago. A quick glance around the room told Kara that none of the villains were a match for her as per usual.
"Alright, I'll go on ahead" said Kara to the three dozen people that had joined her in this raid. "You deal with the riffraff"
"Yatzee!" proclaimed Harley Quinn holding a comicly large mallet as she charged into the room. Harley was quickly followed by the other members of the Justice League that had gone with them.
Kara flew to the other side of the chamber, shooting off lasers from her eyes here and there to help thin out the numbers.
Kara landed in front of another large steel door. It took four mighty punches to knock the thick doors down. A long corridor led to the very center of the building where a vat of greenish liquid stood. Inside the vat was a hulking shadowy figure. It took Kara a minute to recognize the shadowy figure. It was no doubt a clone of Doomsday, a monstrous alien that had killed her cousin two months ago. The sight of the clone sent Kara into a rage and she flew straight into the vat, grabbing the unconscious clone and crashing it into the wall behind the vat. The wall crumbled around Kara and the clone of Doomsday.
"Who would clone such an abomination?" sneered Kara. The clone looked to not be fully developed as the clone looked rather small compared to the real Doomsday who had been killed by Superman just before dying of his injuries. The Man of Steel had sacrificed himself to save the world, leaving Kara behind.
As to who had cloned Doomsday one man came to Kara's mind: Lex Luthor. Lex was pretty much the only person who could even conceive the idea of cloning the alien abomination that had been Doomsday.
Kara was so in a rage that she literally tore the clone apart, showering her with blood and gore. Kara then looked quickly around to see that nobody was there to witness her rage. Kara spent the next few minutes to calm down.
Kara moved slowly made a circuit of the room to see what else was in the room. She paused as she came upon a small container that was on a table. Kara opened the container to reveal a small hunk of a glowing green rock. Almost instantly a wave of nausea had hit Kara making her stumble backwards a few steps, dropping the container and causing the rock to fall out of the container and skitter a few feet away. Even from a few feet away, Kara could feel the effects of what was unmistakably Kryptonite. Slowly Kara took more steps away from the small hunk of her home planet.
"Hello! What the hell happened in here?" asked a voice. Kara turned to see Jon Stewart, the Green Latern, entering the room.
"Kryptonite..." said Kara, her words a croak. She pointed to the rock some feet away. With his ring, Jon made a construct of a force field to cover the rock. Instantly Kara felt a lot better.
"Who made a clone of Doomsday?" asked Jon looking at the pieces of Doomsday in the room.
"Who else but Luthor?" asked Kara.
"We don't know that for sure" said Jon, placing the kryptonite into its original container, which was made out of lead.
Kara nodded vaguely as her remaining strength came back.
"They must've came here to retrieve that clone" said Batman, entering the room quickly followed by Harley Quinn who had given up the criminal life shortly after the death of The Joker during the rampage of Doomsday. The brute hadn't killed Joker directly: it had been the collateral damage that had killed off the Joker.
"We found this" said Harley holding a black rock the size of a large marble. "Whatever it is, it was closely protected by Gorilla Grodd"
Kara suddenly noticed that she had grown a few inches when Harley had held out the large round rock. Kara also felt the nausea that only kryptonite could bring on....but it was a minor case of nausea. She also didn't feel weakened by the large rock. Kara grew a few more inches.
"Um, why is Kara growing?" asked Jon.
"Gotta be this rock" said Batman examining the large black rock.
Wonder Woman entered the room. "We're rounding up everyone in there"
"That's a relief" said Kara as she grew at a steady pace. She was now seven feet tall.
"Perhaps we better separate Kara from this rock" said Batman.
"Yeah" said Harley as she made to walk out of the room. As luck would have it, Harley stepped into some viscera from the remains of the Doomsday clone causing her to slip and fall to the floor. Harley had been in the act of placing the large marble into her costume but when she slipped she lost hold of the marble. The marble flew into the air. Jon made a grab at the marble but he was a touch too slow. It went right for Kara.
On insnict, Kara caught the marble without thinking. Almost immediately Kara started to rapidly grow. She shot pass ten feet tall when she had dropped the marble and kicked it away but she continued to grow.
"Oopsie" said Harley in a meek voice picking up the odd marble again and ran from the room.
"I think you all should leave" said Kara as she grew to the ceiling which was a good twenty feet tall.
"I think she's right" said Batman.
Wonder Woman and the others ran from the room as Kara's head burst through the ceiling and into the next floor up. It didn't take long for Kara to burst through to the next floor...and the next...and the next, until she burst out of the thirty-story building and still kept growing.
The facility was out in the middle of nowhere so there wasn't damage to any other property.
Kara grew until she was....
