“Stay away from boys! Why are your grades slipping?! Stop being tardy all the time! Oh, why did we ever come to this country?! Where did I go wr-” right about there was when Kamala shut her door. As soon as her mom starting scolding herself for a change, that was when Kamala knew that she was in the clear, not that it made her feel any better. To say that Kamala Khan was frustrated would be an understatement. Heck, she couldn’t remember the reason that her mom had laid into her like that tonight, but knowing her, it could have been anything. There was only one that she did know for sure, “I need to get out of here.”

Sneaking out to get away from an irate parent may be foolish for some, but, she thought, not for Ms. Marvel. Reaching into her backpack for her costume, Kamala began to fight back any lingering doubts in what she was about to do, “If I don’t get out of here, my head is going to explode. Besides, Spiderman told me that the best way to clear a superhero’s head is to go out on patrol and let the rush of your powers put everything into perspective in your solitude….oh man, what if I run into him again?” At that point, Kamala had to summon her Inhuman Super Strength just to keep herself from squealing in excitement. She did do an eager little dance though, and the very thought of once again teaming up with the same legendary who once dated her idol rushed her out her window all the more quickly.

Now donned in her uniform, Kamala simply opened up the window, made sure that the cost was clear, and leapt out, while also extending her legs down to great lengths at the same time. With just a few steps, she was soon blocks away from her home, and soon she found herself sighing in relief. The rush and the solitude were already working her magic, which left Kamala saying, “Thank you, Spidey.”

*GURGLE!*

Her smile dropped for a moment once she head that noise coming from inside her. Kamala soon groaned over the small detail she had neglected to remember, “Ah man, with all of mom’s hounding, I forgot to grab some leftovers when I came home! I hope the Circle Q is still open; if I get hurt while hungry, I’m dead meat.” Once again, Kamala found herself in desperate need of better vibes, “Okay, switching gears to serious superhero mode. Crooks and supervillains may come out any time of any day, but nightfall in Jersey City, these streets are probably going to be crawling with car thieves. Or maybe Moloids! Ooh! Or maybe Morlocks! Or….a weird light in the sky.” Just before she reached her favorite convenience store, Kamala halted at the sight of a very bright glow hanging much lower than the stars. Naturally, she knew that it had to be aliens, but one thing she did not expect was that they would shine their tractor beam down onto her…which they did.

“Hey!” Kamala shouted as she suddenly found herself not only leaving the ground, but her proportions suddenly snapped back to normal against her will! A rush of fear soon filled her young body, and she tried in vain to make a joke out of the scenario, “Moral of the story is don’t sneak out, right?” Kamala’s only response was an even brighter flash of light.

“Uuuuuuuuuugh.” All the world was blurry as Kamala found herself waking up after what only felt like a few seconds. However, what she saw when the world cleared up left her longing for the peace of unconsciousness. Nose to nose with her was what looked like Captain Marvel with blue skin. This could mean one of two things. Either Mystique was messing with her, or it was, “Doctor Minerva?!”

“That’s my name, don’t wear it out…and don’t shout it out either. Seriously, ouch.” As the Kree supervillain stepped away and tried to get the ringing to stop, Kamala gasped as herself strapped by her arms and legs to a table on what was clearly the ship she had been abducted to. The teen hero wasted no words, except for one, “Embiggen!....Embiggen!....Embi-

“Stop it. Honestly, do you ever stop being annoying?” Dr. Minerva asked her. Ms. Marvel’s only response was to frighteningly look to see that the metal straps holding her limbs down were still firmly in place, and no part of her body was doing what she had shouted. “What did you do to me?!” she demanded to know, and like all good supervillains, Minerva was happy to boast, “Oh please, did you really think I wouldn’t find out how to dampen your powers?” After sneering smugly at her, the door to the room hissed as it opened, and Kamala got to see several more Kree walk in, and Minerva spoke once again, “You see, after our last little encounter, I am now VERY interested in the effects of the Terrigen Mists. Naturally, you were my first choice for a candidate in this experiment. Don’t worry though, your powers won’t stay fully repressed for long. I need them at least somewhat functional for my studies.”

The smile on Minerva’s face made Kamala’s skin crawl.
