Janet van Dyne zipped through the air exactly like her alter ego's namesake. Moments earlier, Janet had been in Black Cat's hideout. The hero known as Wasp had been, in fact, on Felicia herself. When Felicia had paused while speaking to a shrunken down Peter Parker to scratch a spot it had been Janet flying off of Felicia. Janet headed straight for a nearby air vent and entered it. After navigating a virtual maze of ducts, which took several minutes, Janet had finally emerged on the roof of the hideout.
The hideout was a two story abandoned mansion in an advanced state of disrepair. It was out in the middle of nowhere. There were missing shingles from the roof as well as a gaping hole on the far side of the roof. The walls (and roof) were all covered in thick ivy. The mansion was slowly being reclaimed by nature.
Janet did a quick once-over of the old mansion. Janet zipped around the mansion to examine it and the surrounding land. The mansion was in the middle of a grassy field with a driveway that was bigger than some ordinary houses. There were no vehicles in the driveway. Janet saw that the entire area was surrounded by a thick fog. Thick as a soup or even thicker. Janet saw nothing in the fog save for vague shapes which might've been trees in the distance. Some sixth sense told Janet that the thick fog wasn't natural.
Janet flew into the thick fog. Several minutes went by as Janet flew in a (mostly) straight line. There were indeed trees at the edges of what would be the property of the mansion.
Janet tried to reach anyone with her wrist communicator that every Avenger had. All of her efforts to reach Hank or anyone else by the communicator was met with nothing but static. She kept trying to reach anyone for nearly fifteen minutes when Janet flew out of the fog.
"But that's...." muttered Janet as the mansion came into view. It was indeed the same mansion. But that was impossible. She had flown away from the mansion for a good twenty minutes only to arrive back at the mansion. Janet re-entered the fog. Another twenty minutes later, Janet emerged from the fog only to be at the mansion again. Janet's gaze drifted upwards to see the sky was also veiled by fog. Janet flew upwards and entered the fog bank above. A mere five minutes later and Janet found herself coming back to the mansion. Janet sighed. She just couldn't get away from the mansion.
"And just where did you came from?"
Janet had landed on the ground some ten feet from the mansion. The voice coming from her wrist communicator startled Janet. The voice had belonged to Felicia Hardy. Janet hesitated before answering. Jan had met the thief Black Cat only once before at the annual Halloween party hosted by Dr. Strange three years ago....or had it been four years?
"I assume you're the reason I can't get away" said Jan aloud.
"I control reality now" came the answer. "but, I'm curious little miss Wasp, how did you manage to come here without my knowing?"
"I was on my way home when I caught a glimpse of you walking on the Hudson River" said Janet, growing to her normal size. She stood there uncertain for a moment when, shrugging her shoulders, decided to head for the front door of the mansion. As Janet approached the door of the mansion opened on its own accord. Janet walked into a small antechamber before coming to a huge grand room that had a,staircase that led upstairs.
Janet continued, "naturally I was curious to see how you were walking on water so I shrank down and followed you here"
"Ah, so you hitched a ride on me" said Felicia.
Janet looked around. The interior of the mansion looked far more better than the outside. The walls were mostly free of growing moss and mold. The walls looked to be far more sturdier. An ancient grandfather clock ticked away somewhere in a corner, making it the only sound in the sprawling mansion. Here and there were display cases filled with all manner of jewels and coins. One display case had a rather eye-catching dagger with embedded jewels on the hilt. Not one of the display cases had any kind of label that identified what was inside.
Janet did a quick walkthrough of the first floor which consisted of ten rooms including a large kitchen that must've taken at least a third of the entire first floor. Most rooms had large portraits in them. Most of the portraits were landscapes and abstract art.
"Taking your time aren'tcha?" came the voice of Black Cat over the radio as Janet began to climb the stairway to the second floor. "I promise I don't bite"
"You're in a talkative mood today" replied Janet. "I'm just surprised you have a hideout in New Jersey. Or what I assume is in New Jersey"
"This is my dad's old hideout" said Felicia. "it's kinda out in the middle of nowhere. I'd like to think of it as home away from home"
Janet reached the second floor by then. The second floor had three long hallways separated by three rooms. Janet moved cautiously after hearing a ominous creak in one part of the floor that had a small hole in it leading to the first floor.
"So," said Felicia. "what do you plan on doing here? Just looking around or are you in the market for an old rundown mansion? Or do you plan on just hauling my godly ass off to jail? Or are you here to rescue poor Peter from the claws of his ex-girlfriend?"
"Let's just play it by ear" said Jan. She paused and asked, "how did you even get on this frequency?"
A soft chuckle came over the communicator. "I just said I control reality now. I thought you were smart Miss Van Dyne"
Janet moved from room to room. Nothing but bedrooms and storage space. Another room was a disgusting bathroom that had never been cleaned in probably decades. Janet moved swiftly onwards. Eventually, Jan entered a grand ballroom with the largest collection of display cases. On the far side of the room sat the thief known as Black Cat on a loveseat that could've sat three people. Near the loveseat, along the wall, was a simple cot. Spider-Man was lying on the cot with his costume on. Jan walked slowly towards Black Cat who had an amused expression on her face. Black Cat was showered in gold and was wearing numerous necklaces around her neck. Black Cat wore an ornate crown which had mostly onyx at the edges.
Janet failed to notice what was happening on the high ceiling due to it being lost in shadow. Janet somehow avoided being dripped on by liquid coming down in spots. The droplets of liquid made contact with the carpeted floor and, after a few moments, started to melt.
Jan made it all the way to Black Cat without incident. The smile on Felicia Hardy's face was a warm one. Janet came to stand in front of the loveseat and glanced at Spider-Man who appeared to be sound asleep.
"I figured you would be out there establishing your dominion" said Jan turning her gaze back on Felicia. Jan's eyes focused on the infinity gauntlet and briefly wondered what she would do with the infinite power that the gauntlet bestowed to the people that wore it. Jan continued, "also I'm shocked that you're hanging out in a rundown mansion instead of turning it into a palace"
"Just because I have the infinite power of the gauntlet doesn't mean I'm going to rule the world with an iron fist and turn into a tyrant" said Felicia in an even voice.
"Even if you're going to be benevolent with the powers of the gauntlet," said Jan. "that's way too much power for anyone to have. And don't you entertain the notion that I'm the only person on the planet who knows you have the gauntlet. With the amount of energy that thing puts out I'm sure that the Avengers know that someone has the gauntlet, not including anyone else with enough technology that can detect energy spikes. Hell, I'm sure that the cosmic entities out there in space know that the gauntlet is here on Earth"
"I have no doubt that certain people are aware of me having this gauntlet" said Felicia. "they might even be on their way here. But they'll be far too busy dealing with what I have in store for the world"
"What are--" started Jan when Felicia brought up the infinity gauntlet and snapped her finger. There came a bright flash that totally blinded Jan. The flash barely lasted ten seconds.
Jan looked around wildly to see nothing had changed.
"What did you do?" asked Jan.
"Fundamentally changed the world" said Felicia with a wide grin that showed her teeth.
