She doesn’t even look up at you as she eats her breakfast. Within a few seconds, she finishes and wisps herself back upstairs, not even bothering to put her plate away or to finish her coffee. The shower is running for about 40 minutes, and you hear her blow dry her hair and apply make-up. After about an hour, she comes back down to put her plate in the sink.
“Hey,” you shout. “Excuse me!”
“Oh hey,” she stammers. “I had forgotten about you. Long night.”
She leaves for the kitchen and comes back with a cookie. “Here,” she presents it. She sizes you up. She doesn’t seem to want to harm you yet relatively indifferent to your well-being.
“You’ve got to help me. Bring me to the authorities so I can go back home to the U.S.”
“And get my friend arrested. No that’s not an option. I guess I could use a little pet, but right now, I have a few errands to run. Stay put for now, and when I get back, I will set up a little home for you.”
Before you have time to respond, she grabs her purse, walks out the door. You eat a bit of the cookie, about as twice as large, eating your fill. Then you wait for several hours, trapped on the mantel wish no choice but to wait until she gets back.
