You look up at the gigantic Martine beaming down at you and feel intimidated and humiliated by her gaze.
She brings a finger up and pets you as you manage to stumble out the words “I want to try the hospital, please”.

The girls giggles reverberated around you. Martine pulls the sort of expression you would expect if she had just seen a puppy do its first trick.

She smiles gently and patronisingly towards you.

“Of course you would, Sweetie. But, as Claire says, how would they cure you? People don’t just shrink.”

“Can’t we try?”

“No”, you hear Claire say behind you, “it just isn’t safe”.

She takes you from Martine’s hand and lifts you to her face. “Listen Little Stevie, you need to understand that we’re responsible for you now. It’s not just that we are bigger and stronger than you. We are smarter too. Look at how tiny your head is. Your brain cannot be bigger than a pea. How can an itty bitty pea size brain understand the risks of the nasty big world?”

“She’s right, little dude” Martine chips in again. “The hospital isn’t safe for you. You might be too tiny to realise that but we have to do what is right and you are safe as our pet”.
