The corridor was too small for the both of you, yet here you were—two transformed women, shoulder to shoulder, trying not to elbow each other out of the way.

Marcus squeezed Camille's breasts once more, grimacing. “Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep these things from knocking into everything?”

“You could stop fondling yourself for five seconds,” you snapped, tugging the hem of Miriam’s pencil skirt down over your thighs. “Try professionalism for once.”

“I’m adjusting,” he hissed. “This blouse was cut by a sadist. And your eyes are wandering again, by the way.”

You flushed. “I was checking your neckline. It’s crooked.”

“Sure you were.” He leaned in close, cleavage brushing against your arm, lips twisting into that same smug grin you remembered from his real face. Except now it made your stomach flutter.

You shoved him back, maybe harder than necessary. He stumbled into the wall. He looked back up at you.

“You jealous?” he asked.

“Of what? That you look like a bombshell hooker while I look like someone who actually belongs in a boardroom?”

His laughter was low. “No, jealous that I’m pulling it off better than you. Admit it—half the time you’re thinking about this body, not the pitch.”

You turned away, fussing with your dossier. “Focus. Verena will be here in five minutes. We walk in, we play our parts, we sell the tech.”

Marcus smirked back at you. But then—something rare—his expression softened, just a fraction. “Don’t screw this up, partner.”

Partner. Not rival, not idiot, not liability. The word hit strangely.

You almost said something back, something reckless, but then you were in the lobby, and Verena was walking through the front doors.

“Showtime,” you both whispered at once.
