You’d never seen Marcus so off-balance. He tugged at the blouse, adjusting straps that refused to cooperate, his breasts jiggling with every frustrated movement.

Now, walking side by side toward the front entrance of Metamorphosis Dynamics, the roles had crystallized. You: the sharp, composed executive, every step confident. Him: the eye-catching assistant, heels clicking, chest bouncing.

Marcus kept his chin high, but the blush across his cheeks betrayed him.

“Smile,” you murmured.

“Go to hell,” he muttered back, but when the doors slid open and Verena Dusk swept inside, he smiled.

She was every inch the queen the dossier promised: platinum hair sculpted to perfection, black suit tailored razor-sharp, an aura of command that bent the air around her. Her eyes swept the lobby once, twice, then landed on you.

“You must be the representative from Metamorphosis,” she said, voice smooth as glass.

You stepped forward, hand extended. “Yes. And may I introduce my associate?” You gestured toward Marcus, who shifted his weight nervously. “She’ll be ensuring our demonstration runs smoothly.”

Verena’s gaze lingered on him. Sharp, assessing, then faintly amused. Marcus’s blush deepened as her eyes dipped—unmistakably—to his cleavage before flicking back up.

“Charming,” Verena murmured.

Marcus forced a bright smile, the picture of obliging femininity. “Thank you,” he said, his voice pitched high, sweet.

You hid your grin. He was dying inside, you could see it in the stiffness of his shoulders, the way his hands clenched around his clutch. But he didn’t dare break character, not with Verena’s sharp eyes on him.

The game had begun.
