You ignored your buzzing tablet and turned toward the woman. She trembled in the doorway, clutching the silver device like a lifeline. Up close, the wrongness of her outfit was clearer—the dress flattened against a chest that had no business filling it, seams straining as if the body inside didn’t match the purchase receipt.
“Hey,” you said gently, holding up your hands. “Take a breath. Start from the beginning. What happened?”
Her eyes darted around the lab, terrified of the gawking researchers. You steered her toward a quiet bench near the wall. She perched awkwardly, knees pressed tight together, as if she didn’t know what to do with the body she sat in.
“I… I wasn’t supposed to look like this,” she whispered. “My name’s—” She hesitated, swallowing hard. “It was Evan. Until about an hour ago.”
Evan—now the woman before you—shoved the device into your hands. The casing was smooth and cold, etched with faint, glowing lines that shifted when you tilted it. “Your company calls this a MorphogenCore. Someone sold it to me on the black market. Said it could… enhance things. A quick body hack. But it didn’t stop. It rewrote me.”
His voice cracked, climbing into an octave he clearly wasn’t used to. He hugged himself, as if trying to hold his new curves in place.
“I can’t change back. I don’t know if it broke, or if it decided this is what I am now. And I can’t walk into a hospital looking like this. Please—tell me you can fix it.”
The panic in his eyes made your stomach tighten. He was gorgeous, yes—small frame, pert C-cup breasts swelling against his too-tight dress, ass pressing against the fabric. But beneath the beauty was raw fear.
You studied the silver device. It pulsed faintly, almost like a heartbeat.
