The frantic desperation of the stranger, the quiet urgency of Alina Thorne's summons—it all melts away as you turn and walk toward the elevators with Maya and Liam. The weight of corporate responsibility lifts from your shoulders, replaced by the familiar buzz of a Friday night with your friends. This is your safe space, the world you understand.

The Rendezvous Club is a sensory riot. The air inside is thick with the scent of gin and synthetic musk, a deep, pulsing bassline vibrating through the floor, a constant reminder that this is a place for the body, not the mind. Lights flash in strobing colors, revealing and concealing a constant ballet of human forms.

You and Liam grab a booth in a quiet corner while Maya heads to the bar. Liam, in his usual slightly-baggy cargo shorts and a faded band t-shirt, checks the time on his smartwatch. "She's always like this," he says, with a shake of his unruly red hair. "Gotta find a fresh body for the night. You'd think a person with access to a million forms would be able to stick to one for five minutes."

"Doesn't it get... exhausting?" you ask, watching the crowd. "Choosing a new person every time you want to go out?"

Liam shrugs, his impish grin spreading across his face. "Nah, man. It’s like picking out an outfit. Sometimes you want to be a tank top and sometimes you want to be a tailored suit. You just don't get the option to change the clothes and the person wearing them. It’s the ultimate form of self-expression. You of all people should get it. You're the one who designs the tech to do it, you know." He pauses, taking a sip of the ice water you ordered for him. "Besides, Maya's a pragmatist. She's just optimizing for the night."

"Optimizing for what, exactly?" you ask with a small laugh.

"You'll see," he says, taking another long drink.
