Sakurai recomposed himself before continuing, "Tell me, do both of you remember former general Ryu Tanaka?"
"Oh I remember him!" Haruka smiled. "He would always invite me over to the old military base for his battle trials! Those were fun!" her smile then faded. "I wonder what happened to him."
"He left the military shortly after my orange rain project and went into hiding. But not before he promised to destroy every last Kaiju walking the face of the earth." Junko answered.
"What!?" the giantess gasped. She then turned back towards Sakurai, "Is that true!?"
The man nodded. "Indeed. He left his brother in arms behind and swore to tear down our new society. He's a threat to national security and needs to be dealt with accordingly."
The kaiju girl looked genuinely sad now. The general might not have always been the most pleasant person to be around, but he was fun and a good man. Why did he hate kaiju so much?
"So am I safe to assume you called us both here because Tanaka's finally made his move?" Junko asked.
"Yes and no. Rumors have been popping up all around Japan recently about a new kind of underground organization. No one knows there name but the word on the street is they're buying up all kinds of property and bringing in tons of funds. To what end... we don't know."
"And you believe Tanaka might be behind this?" the blonde pressed.
Sakurai sighed. "Maybe, but we can't rule anything out. If he is involved then we need to bring him in as soon as possible. We can't let him disrupt the peace."
"Then why call us?" Haruka finally asked. "Wouldn't it be better to have normal police and soldier's looking for him?"
The normal sized man shook his head. "No, that's no good. He can easily neutralize whoever we send with his training. You on the other hand, I doubt he'll try to put you in a sleeper hold. Besides, he knows the both of you, and that's already a big advantage."
"He hates us." Junko chimed in.
"More than most." Sakurai smiled. "What I want is for the two of you to investigate, keep your eyes peeled for him or anything that might seem suspicious. If you do find him your orders are to capture him alive... and if you can't... "
"You want us to kill him..." Haruka whispered, her eyes shadowed by her hair.
"Hopefully it won't come to that. I'd much rather you bring him in alive." the higher up stated firmly. "The country, as well as the world needs you. Do you accept this mission?"
"If it keeps the world I built stable, then I guess I have no choice." Junko said blandly. "I'm in."
Haruka looked a little more hesitant. "I-I'll help... but I won't kill anybody."
"Good enough for me. Now get going. I'll keep you posted if I find out anything."
With that said, the two giants bowed before taking their leave. Once they were gone from sight, the elder man sighed before whipping out his phone.
He dialed a number and waiting for an answer.
"Yeah... it's me. All the pieces are in place."
