Ken and Makoto sat in the cold and dark holding cell with nothing but silence between them. It wasn't because they didn't have anything to say to each other, but because they had already been working on a plan of escape.
The guard posted outside of their cell didn't mind the quiet however, in fact he preferred it. The last thing he wanted to hear were the annoying cries and screams of sad and enraged parents. A part of him wished Sakurai would've just let him shoot them and be done with it.
Ken meanwhile eyed his wife's blank expression and glossy eyes. He knew she was telepathically communicating with their daughter, a gift from prolonged exposure to the space rock.
In a mattered of minutes the gloss faded from her eyes and she blinked a few times before returning to normal. It was all up to Haruka now to find her inner monster. She had faith in her.
"Did she get the message?" Ken whispered as to not alert the guard.
Mako nodded in affirmation. "She got it. It's all up to her now."
Ken sighed. He hated not being able to protect his little girl, even if she didn't really need protection. Though after today, he wasn't so sure anymore. "I just feel so useless."
"I know. I just want to shield Haruka from all the world's dangers and yet... I can't." Mako admitted sadly. She felt a pair of arms wrap around her and bring her in close.
"It's okay. We'll get through this. We always do." Ken tried to assure his wife. When they got out of this mess they were leaving Japan. Maybe they could go to the United States, he still had friends over there who wanted to make it big in the states.
"I just don't understand. Why Haruka? Why now? The military was never this horrible to us or her. Why do they only see a weapon and not a human being? I can't understand!"
Ken's grip tightened. "Some people are just cruel, Mako. Some people are just cruel."
Sakurai, Junko, Tanaka... the whole damn army!
The small talk was soon interrupted by the sound of scrapping metal. The Kayoki family guard suddenly stood ramrod straight and saluted the man entering the holding cells. He'd know that stiff walk and eyepatch anywhere. "Five-Star General Tanaka sir!"
"At ease." he saluted back, making the man drop his guard. That proved to be a fatal mistake on his part. He never saw the the newly promoted general's fist coming. In one strike the man was flat on his back in a sea of nothing. Tanaka clenched his fist repeatedly. "Damn that hurt. I must be out of practice."
The kaiju's parents leaped from their seat in shock at what they'd just seen. Did Tanaka just knock out one of his own men?
Ken was warry, but broke the silence all the same. "Tanaka? What are you doing?"
"Isn't it obvious? I'm getting you out of here." he answered as he rummaged the unconscious soldier's pockets for the keys to the lock.
"I can see that. But why? Aren't you with Junko and Sakurai?" he asked.
The man finally found what he was looking for. "No, not anymore! I didn't sign up for this. I wanted to protect and serve my country, not create some kind authoritarian empire. Junko and Sakurai will lead us all to destruction."
"What about Haruka?" Mako questioned.
"I'm sorry. I warned her about about Junko but she still captured her all the same." the general apologized as he fumbled with the keys in the lock. "You need to get out of this compound and alert the police about what's happening. Tell anyone who will listen."
The cell lock finally clicked and the door opened. Both parents cautiously made their way out and eyed the general carefully. "How do we know we can trust you?"
The tired general sighed, but before he could answer the lights went dark. Everyone in the room grew nervous as the red emergency lights flashed and a loud alarm sounded.
A large bang shook the base and sent the three adults to the floor. "What was that? An earthquake?"
"No..." Mako answered.
What sounded like a loud a monstrous roar unlike anything they ever heard before, ripped through the base like vengeful storm, shattering glass and popping eardrums.
"That would be our daughter..." Ken explained nervously. "And she's pissed."
