You sit back on the floor, catching your breath and wiping your face with the back of your hand. The taste and scent of Vulpix still linger, a reminder of the humiliating ordeal. You glance toward the door, hoping your mother will return soon and put an end to this awkward moment.

As if on cue, the door creaks open, and your mother steps back into the room. She’s carrying a small satchel filled with supplies—potions, a map, and a few other essentials for your journey. Her eyes immediately fall on you, still sitting on the floor, and then to Vulpix, who’s now lounging lazily in the corner, looking thoroughly pleased with herself.

"Well, it looks like you two had a little bonding time. Good. Vulpix will miss you while you’re gone."

She sets the satchel down beside you and crosses her arms, her expression softening slightly.

"Now, listen. I’ve packed everything you’ll need for your journey. Don’t lose it, and don’t embarrass me out there. You’re still mine, remember that. But... I expect you to make me proud."

She reaches down and ruffles your hair, a rare gesture of affection that catches you off guard.

"Get up. It’s time for you to go."

Vulpix lets out a soft yip from the corner, her tails flicking as if to say goodbye. Your mother steps back, waiting for you to gather yourself and the satchel.

You step out of the house, the satchel slung over your shoulder and the contract carefully tucked inside. The sun is bright overhead, casting a warm glow over Hearthome Village. The streets are bustling with women and their Pokémon, going about their daily lives. A few glance your way, some with curiosity, others with indifference, but none stop to question you.

The village is small but lively, with cobblestone paths winding between quaint cottages and small shops. You know Professor Juniper’s lab is on the outskirts of town, near the edge of the forest. As you walk, you pass by a group of women training their Pokémon in a nearby field. A Mareep lets out a cheerful bleat, and a Roselia dances gracefully in the sunlight.

As you approach the lab, you notice a sign outside that reads:
"Professor Juniper’s Research Lab – Welcome Trainers!"

The building is modest but well-kept, with large windows that let in plenty of natural light. You can see movement inside—Professor Juniper herself, pacing back and forth as she reviews some papers. She hasn’t noticed you yet.
