The gym smelled like sweat and disinfectant. Tables lined the basketball court, each cluttered with projects: baking-soda volcanoes, solar ovens, some kid’s half-assed poster about the water cycle. And then there was Ethan’s masterpiece—the Morphisizer—currently wedged between a diorama of the food pyramid and a kid’s “robot” made from Pringles cans.
Marcus dragged the main unit out of the Civic while Ethan struggled with the cords. Or, more accurately, Ethan struggled with his chest. Every time he bent over to pick something up, his breasts dangled forward and bounced, distracting and… weirdly heavy.
Marcus grinned like a hyena. “Man, I’m sorry, but watching you wrestle cables with those is… I can’t not laugh.”
“Help, jackass,” Ethan hissed, yanking the power strip. The hoodie’s collar slipped, flashing a good inch of cleavage. He caught a pair of sophomore dudes gawking near the bleachers. He yanked the hoodie tighter. “Great. Now I’m the freak show.”
“You’re not the freak show,” Marcus said, smirking. “You’re the halftime show.”
By the time they finished setting up, kids were filing into the gym. Teachers hovered with clipboards. Ethan ducked behind his display, hoping to avoid every possible conversation. He’d stuck to the far corner of the table, hands in his pockets, shoulders hunched, trying to look bored instead of mortified.
“Okay,” Marcus said, leaning against the table. “Game plan. We keep it low-key. No weird questions. You just… act like you belong.”
Ethan shot him a look. “Act like I belong? I’m literally a naked centerfold stuffed into your sister’s yoga pants. I don’t ‘belong’ anywhere right now.”
Marcus snorted. “Yeah, you do. Just keep your mouth shut and look pretty.”
“Go to hell.”
